Anyone who has already interviewed willing to shed some light on how the process goes?

(only if they’re allowed to, of course)

You'll get on zoom in the morning, and you'll be assigned an academic and non-academic interviewer each for 30 min at any given time. Youll also get a virtual tour and some other intro stuff from the admissions offices

Did y’all get a confirmation email after scheduling interview date?
I received my II about two weeks ago, scheduled for this coming Monday. I just received information today about the layout of the day and the windows for interviews. But I will not know my specific times until the morning of, according to the email. The email today did contain the Zoom link, so they’ll send it to you a few days before your interview date.

+1 WL (alternate, as they call it)

Disappointed because I thought I interviewed well but it is what it is. Would love to attend here so hopefully I move in off of that later in the season

I understand the disappointment--but keep your head up. Tennessee does things in waves and being on the alternate list in no way means you will not get in. Historically they put 80 people on the wait list and 60 of them get offered "A's". Very real chance that you get in in the next wave but there is also the chance you do not hear anything until May. But again, by raw numbers there is a 3/4 chance you get an "A" unless you decide to attend elsewhere.
Possible reasons that a good candidate could be an alternate include--more great candidates than usual so they filled the uusal number of "A's" from the first wave, some question about your application or interview that they wish to clear up, or something as pedestrian as your interviewer could not attend the most recent meeting and the next one is not until (make up xy date).
I know to those reading this, this is the most important thing in the world but these committee members have lives, jobs, families, and obligations and they do not meet every day. That is why Tennessee does this in waves and the Alternate list could be because your interviewer could not attend the meeting and will not be there until January (made that up). Remember, Tennessee takes 170 (ish) students and at least 60 of them come from the wait (Alternate) list. Over 1/3 of the class.
As I understand it, the first wave of interviews are typically students that will likely be accepted elsewhere and most will not attend Tennessee. This is kind of like your "reach" schools to which you likely applied. The second wave which typically comes in Jan/Feb are where they get the meat of their class--as I understand it (which might be wrong). Then in late Feb/March they extend interviews to the 3rd wave if necessary (if the quota is not met and the wait list is not full) Then the "r's go out. Obviously A's are best. Wait list not bad at all. R is the only negative at this point.

Has anyone emailed them asking about the status of their application pre-II, I don't want to seem neurotic (i am absolutely being neurotic) but I just genuinely want to know. Their website says we can email them, but I wanted to see if anyone else had done this yet

Call. Be nice to the person in the admissions office. Ask what else you need to do. Show interest. Ask what you need to do to make your application more attractive. Send a end of the year update.

Getting your name in front of someone there is not bad--even if it is just them pulling up your file.
Has anyone had success with this in the past? I’m scared I’ll come off as annoying 🫣
