2ndary App - grammar question

When I'm trying to tell a school that they rock, I find that I have to keep writing out Ohio Univerisity of Osteopathic Medicine or whichever one. Did everyone else do the same? is it acceptable to shorten the name to OU or "the University" or "the college" or something?

stressing my OU secondary and i have seven more to fill out this week!

How does the school's literature reference the school? Does it write out the whole name every time?

I'm no style expert, but I would use the full name judiciously, at the beginning of your essay, for instance. For a school like TUCOM you might use the full name, "Touro," and TUCOM in an essay (even the admissions director kept calling it TUCOM on interview day -- the name is just too long to say every time!)

I go to a school w/a very long name so it would have been laughable for me to use the entire name throughout the entire essay. I think I used it twice (at the beginning and end).

I am in no way a style expert, but here is the rule about abbreviations. The first time you refer to Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medcine, follow it with the abbreviation (OUCOM). From that point on it is acceptable refer to the school as OUCOM.

So:
1st time= Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine (OUCOM).
Every other time thereafter= OUCOM.
