Hello everyone! I'm looking for some advice and I'm hoping to get some input as to whether or not I would be competitive for DO (or MD). Non-traditional, two years off from school. I took the MCAT last summer (507) and just last week (won't receive scores until next month). I know my GPA is on the low side, but it's my transcript I'm afraid of.

Freshman year, I took bio/chem/calculus/other core curriculum classes and ended with a GPA of 3.95 . In the summer after freshman year, a lot happened. The end result was that my family would be unable to provide me with any financial help (tuition/food/etc) and I had to get a job my sophomore year. This wasn't necessarily bad (medical scribe) but I didn't have a car at the time, it was across the city, I had commitments for other extracurricular activities, so my GPA took a hit. I ended dropping out of Ochem and biochem my first semester. The next semester, I ended with C's in both Ochem II and biochem II.

I ended up buying a car junior year and started doing better, however the damage was done. Since then, I've averaged a GPA of 3.60 each semester.

Would schools consider me despite having a C in a prerequisite course? I know I can retake it post-bach, but I'm currently working full time to put my younger sister through college and I'm barely making ends meet (she graduates soon! 2018). Do I have a shot this year? Or should I wait until next year after retaking those courses?

EC:
Pre-med club president (1 year, 1 year treasurer)
ER Scribe (3000 hours)
Summer camp resident assistant for non-profit (3 summers)
Volunteered in college for a lot of clubs.. but didn't keep track of hours :/

Even getting an F won't keep you out of medical school. it sounds as if you have a great rising GPA trend, and Adcoms like that. Come back when you have your MCAT score and we can advise.

Thank you! I'm just really nervous. My last MCAT was 507. Realistically, I'm not expecting anything over a 512 this time around. My NextStep practice test scores were between 506-511, but I'll update when the time comes.

y'all need to check your financial aid, too, she should be getting $$ to help her.
