Hey guys!

I am going into my senior year and am getting ready to take my MCAT in the summer. I will be applying for the 2018 cycle immediately following graduation.

Here are my specs:

At a glance:

Caucasian Female
Biology major at a Texas state school
Cumulative GPA: 3.67
Science GPA: 3.67
MCAT: Not yet completed

Work Experience:

  • (2 years) Art teacher for local kids art school
  • (4 years) Lifeguard and customer service rep for local aquatics department
  • (1 year) Assistant manager for local aquatics department
  • (2 years) Head manager for local aquatics department
  • (3 years-present) Lifeguard instructor for Red Cross
  • (1 year-present) Medical Scribe
  • (6 months ago-present) Scribe trainer

Research:

Began researching chronic pain/migraine related topics with Neuroscience department at my university last semester. Will continue research with this lab until graduation in 2018 and through my gap year after. I should have one published article by the end of next semester. I have spent a total of 56 hours in lab this semester including 4 presentations over research articles during weekly journal club.

Volunteer:
  • Multiple fundraising activities with Pre-Medical club including breast cancer and Alzheimer's disease.

Clinical:
  • Shadowing: A total of 30 hours shadowing a Pediatrician.
  • Scribing: Will continue this through gap year after submitting application.
Other Activities:
  • Fundraising Chair of Pre-Medical club at my university.
I just wanted to get a feel for what my chances are when the time comes to submit my application. I'm also seeking advice on how I can improve my resume. What are some volunteer opportunities I should look for? Should I seek out more doctors to shadow? I'm open to any advice you guys have to offer!

My cGPA may go up .5, but unlikely.

Thank you for your time.

The only thing I can see you might need is more non-clinical volunteering and some more variety in shadowing. Honestly, everything looks pretty good but the MCAT will make or break you. 510+ with your GPA would probably be ideal.
