Hello everyone, Iam new to SDN and have found your threads to be very helpful over the past six months. I will be applying this May 08' to dental schools in hopes of starting summer of 09'. Iam 26 years of age and stupidly accumulated 4 W's on my transcript in spring of 2002 due to serious family emergency overseas. Before leaving in 2002 my GPA was a 2.76. When i finally returned to college in the fall of 2006 I managed semesters of 3.83/4.0/and 3.93 to date. With that being said my GPA is up to a 3.55 today and climbing. Will those 4-W's hurt me when applying, considering my dramatic improvement?

I also did a summer pre-dental program at UPenn and over a 150 volunteer hours at big local practice with strong letter of reccomendations.

Also would you guys recommend applying May 08' if Iam short two courses- Inorganic 2 and Organic 2?

How much of an impact does Physics I and II have (got A's in lecture and lab) when applying, considering it doesnt show up anywhere on the DAT?

Please attempt to address all my concerns if possible.

I really doubt that your Ws will hurt your chances. Just explain your circumstances and what you had to go through during this time in your personal statement. What matters is that you dealt with what you needed to deal with, and then you got right back on track with even more tenacity. I say that counts for a lot. Also every class has an impact when applying especially when it is a requirement. Seems like for the past few semesters you've been striving for A's. Keep it up!

W will NOT hurt you at all. I have four MY SENIOR year and received three acceptances!

what he said.

i had two semesters in a row of SUB 2.0 GPAs. I had some VERY VERY good reasons for it. I explained this in my PS and it was never even mentioned at any of my interviews.

Can someone please address the entire thread? Thank you

Seriously! Does the name "Dentalishus" sound like a "he"?

can anyone educatively address the entire thread please?

OH NO YOU DID NOT!!!!!!!! You know what how about you search past threads for your answer since you are going to be a DONKEY about the advice that you already received. I'm sorry I wasted my time. Good luck.

DENTALISHUS- You obviously have nothing better to do so please dont reply to my thread. Dont need the insults-need the questions and concerns addressed-READ THE ORIGINAL POST! Go find another thread to crash.

If you read the advice we gave you will see that we answered all your questions. Man you really are a DONKEY!. You know that kind of attitude shines right through when you go on interviews no matter how you try to hide it HAHA. As I said before Good luck!

P.S. I was giving you pearls in my first response. Try and stop me from replying to your thread. HAHAHAHA!!!

Dentalishus-So you're telling me you addressed the Physics question and applying without having organic and inorganic 2? I appreciate the response to the withdrawals, but can someone address the other 2 questions? As I stated originally, Iam new to the site and not familiar with the tools or else I would search. Thanks!

you can backpedal all you want. your truly horrible personality has already been displayed.

this is a COMMUNITY.

Lord have mercy!
Why can't everyone get along, love, and frolic and make babies and stuff? Maybe I've been in california too long.
Anyway.
Let me give you a try, Tunaman. (p.s. I love tuna...)

1. I have 2 W's, 1 F, countless C's, and a D. and a 3.4. Out of 4 interviews I was asked about the F one time, and it was Midwestern, and don't get me started on that place, just ask Lopyswine.
2. I would suggest taking chem 2 and orgo 2, um, right now if you can. but fall semester will probaly be fine. I'm not sure what the D schools think about applying without everything done, because I had my pre-reqs done long before applying, but I think if you are set to complete it thats ok, but its better to have those important science grades to show the adcoms I think. But I don't know for sure. I only got in 1 place so far anyway, and am still clueless what they really want.
3. Everybody has good recs, and everybody has lots of shadowing, if not they probably lie. Those are probably moot points. But again....I am only surmising....
4. Physics A's are important and invaluable to your app. It is a required course for EVERY school! So kudos on that. One of my W's was physics. I hate physics.
5. Good luck next year, apply the first day AADSAS goes up..that's what I would do if I had to do this crap all over again. 2 schoolts that canned me said had I applied earlier they would have interviewed me. And do better than me on the DAT, I got 18/17/19 and got a **** ton of rejections and only 4 interviews based on my week score, I THINK....(but not suuurrree....?) Although my reading comp was 22. I'm pretty proud of that.

Thank you brandonbraud for the much needed, straight forward response. I went to Tufts about two weeks ago and they told me to get my application in as soon as the site opens up may 2008, thats why I was asking about the completion of pre-reqs, just wanted to make sure that it wasnt uncommon.

Is there great emphasis on orgo2 and inorg2 on the DAT?

Thank you in advance!

The DAT has stuff on it from the entire series of general and organic chem, at least for me it did. And I had three quarters of each which is like two semesters for you. If you don't take these classes then make sure you buy the textbooks and teach yourself.
