when you can spend 3 days without sleep on your own service, why spend more time on gen surg? Such a baller program.

What are the benefits of the 2-year certificate?
Medical licensure in certain states. Pursuing an addition residency.
Some programs do sign off on 2 years for licensure requirements. Not all, but some.
Even If you go somewhere where you only get 1 year of ACGME general surgery, you can still be licensed in a state requiring 2 through a waiver.
Care to elaborate on this? How would one obtain this waiver, and from where?
Program dependent. Depends on the relationship between your program and general surgery, and what the general surgery chairman decides.
