So I have 6 waitlists right now

UCLA, UCSF, Mayo, Dartmouth, UCI, UCSD...and maybe 2 more Stanford, UC Davis

I only went to approx my top 1/2 interviews because of money and I got accepted to another program, intl (long story). Anyway, I ended up going to the top half of interviews I got. I am simply looking for any opinions/advice about what my chances are about getting accepted off one or more of these waitlist...thanks!!!

Chances look pretty good if you do a statistical analysis from the MSAR, just do 1 - P(not getting accepted anywhere). I think you have a good shot considering you got so many interviews? You know what stood out from your app? Just curious.

I highly doubt you will need to reapply, but if you do, you can submit AMCAS when it comes out to one school to get your app verified, $140? Don't remember, and if WL doesnt wrk out, which is unlikely, at least your app is verified and rdy to go. Good luck.

That verification idea is great.
I think what stood out was my GPA and interesting EC's with good breadth, research, hospital, leadership, volunteer and some other interesting stuff, and I think an early application and a bit of luck, maybe a lot of luck

u have a great shot of getting off UCI AND UCSD's waitlists..since those schools usually have good movement every year...

UCLA, UCSF, MAYO, and Dartmouth..not so likely since everyone wants to go there.

Sounds like I'm in agreement with the previous posters... I would be surprised if you didn't get off any of those waitlists. Though just a precaution you should have your materials in order to reapply, but to reiterate I would be feeling confident if I were in your shoes.:luck::xf:

Are the odds of getting off at least one of six waitlists really all that good? I'm curious because I have five waitlists myself (and a potential three more).

I believe the odds are pretty good, unless your on Tier 2 WL for Penn and WL for top 10 schools. Of course the more WL you're on the more likely you'll be accepted from one of them. Good luck.

Oh yea, Regley, I would write a LOIntent to a school; either one you love the most or one you think you have the greatest chance of getting off the WL (that's if you just want to get into a school). I would write one to a school that you like among those and have a good shot, ie, Mayo's WL doesn't move very much I would assume so I wouldn't write it to them. Good luck!

I was on 4 last year and got in no where. I wish you the best of luck, and 7 certainly seems like you have a good shot, but be careful of doing some 1 - .8^7 calculation. i would think that 7 WLs and no acceptances probably, not definitely, means there is something about your app that kills it post-interview. were your apps late?

Yeah, that probabilty thing is interesting but it leaves out a lot of info. I think interviewing is actually a strength of mine and I'm not being arrogant as I know I have weaknesses. What happened I think is that I went to only the long shot schools i got interviews at (the reason why is a long explanation). Therefore, I only just made the cut off for these interviews so I would have needed to walk on water to get in, to bring me to the top of the list. My MCAT would be the biggest weakness, but they interviewed me after knowing that.

Interesting, yeah, your list does look like all highly competitve schools. I see your point, sounds reasonable. Still, 7 for 7 is a lot, and there is some selectivity range there so id at least talk to your pre-med advisor or see if you can get any feedback from schools just in case there is something you can do different, if need be, for next year (or retake the mcat.)

Good luck, hope its this year for you!

Dartmouth takes a lot of people off their waitlist. What was your rank on the mayo waitlist?

I think it really comes down to the nature of those WLs that u're on. If the schools are known to have big movements in the previous cycles, it's very likely that u'll wind up in a med school by August.

ps. I'm actually on 5 WLs myself, all of which are lower tier schools 😉

Re OP:
at least you are sure that if you reapply next year and go to all of your interview invitation you'll very likely to be accepted by at least a school, so you shouldn't be so upset at all.

Yeah, I have been very very fortunate this application year

Another ONOY here...

yeah what a loser

lol

just kidding, but notice that he's not WL'd @ "I've Never Heard of this Place Before School of Medicine."

7 WL's is better than 4, OP
I'll keep my :xf: that we both get in somewhere.

Next cycle pick your schools more wisely.

***Can someone explain the idea about submitting AMCAS w/ only one school to save $$$? I forget how it works about adding schools after submission. Could I submit on the day AMCAS opens w/ only one school, then add 24 schools ~2 weeks later and still be "early" provided I had a good turnaround time handling the resultant secondaries?***

what takes time with AMCAS is the processing not the sending to schools. The reasoning behind the one school strategy is that you'd get the processing done early and then you could add more schools when you are sure of your MCAT or spring grades.

Does this strategy really work???

I'm not worried about my MCAT or spring grades, but I don't want to pay to send the primary to every school when I submit AMCAS because I might get off a WL in the couple weeks after AMCAS opens.

If I submitted on the day it opened with only 1 school, then I could buy myself ~2 weeks of time to see if I get off a WL before I shell out another 24*$30=$720 just to finish getting my 25 primaries out.

How does it work adding schools after you've submitted? Can you just pay the difference ($30/school) when you add the schools a few weeks later? Is there a certain time after which you can't add any more schools to the primary?

It seems to take about a week for AMCAS to send applications to schools after your app has been verified.

so I can add schools a couple days after I am verified and there will be zero delay compared to if I just had the schools on there in the first place?

minimal delay. I designated two schools on august 23 and received the secondaries august 30. I was complete at both schools september 7 and received interview invites in October for November and December. I think if you designated in late July you may still be in the first group of applicants b/c they might not even have released their secondary yet at that point. You could always write the essays for the secondaries earlier if they are released if the prompts are posted here.

Congrats! I have followed your posts for awhile and secretly rooting for you, and finally there is justice in this world!

Thanks! Ahhh justice, you have to love it lol. I'm just really excited to have an opportunity and to not have to go through the process again.

I got waitlisted at Stanford today, just thought I would update.

Good luck man. Not that I like to see anybody in this situation, but it's nice to know that I'm not the only one in this boat. I'm sitting on six MD waitlists and putting my app together for DO schools next season. Hopefully we both get in this season.

Just got into mayo!!!!

Huge relief, good luck to everyone else still waiting!!!
