i'm in the same boat as you worrying about that dreadful carving score ruining my DAT lolol. I definitely think it will be seen even if not considered, might have some explaining to do for manual dexterity skills
🙁 it's a bit of an unfair examination i think - it's the first section of the DAT and everyone's hands aren't the stillest, too easy to chip that brittle thing
Well, to be honest, I didn't actually practice for it. I wrote the DAT back when I was only considering attending Canadian schools, and the only Canadian schools I would want to go to (U of T and UWO) do not consider the carving section, so I basically just winged it.
I figure that doesn't show the grandest of attitudes on my behalf but I decided to use the time more wisely by investing it in studying for the other sections, and I ended up doing extremely well (even scored in the top 10 in Canada on the RC section), so I feel like it was time well spent.
After reading up on the interview styles at Case and UMN I doubt that they'll be asking me about the score (since they're closed file), so I figure if I get an interview, they couldn't really care less about my carving.
wzhu, do you mind if I PM you? It's hard to find other Canadian applicants with similar situations!
🙂
So when cleanup called NYU and was told there's nothing they can see holding him up... perhaps the ADEA Handbook is outdated in this one regard? I would think if they had a "100 hour" requirement on shadowing, they'd have mentioned it then.
I'm not so sure. I mean, I know that people with far fewer than 100 hours have gotten interviews and accepted (including a friend of mine here at U of T with very similar stats and the same 40 hours of shadowing). However, when I called them I wasn't so much asking "What is it that makes me uncompetitive," but rather "Is there anything you folks are waiting for or something that's delaying my application?" I just wanted to ask if there was something I hadn't provided, or if they were waiting for my pre-reqs to finish. They said I wasn't being delayed by anything, that I was simply under review. That said, I doubt the folks who answer the phone really have access to my complete file. I'm fairly sure all they can see is a checklist of what they've received and whether or not I've paid my fee.
So my app is basically in limbo somewhere in the adcom's piles, and I feel like it's a toss-up as to when or if they'll look at it again. >.> If they set it aside for a single reason, I'd wager that my 40 hours of shadowing is it.
