Hi, I'm just looking for some help.

Next week I have finals and it's looking like I might end up with a "C" in Chemistry, which is a science pre-req (as you all probably know). I have a lot of hands-on experience as a rehab tech, at a muscular dystrophy camp and working with football players. Can I still get into PT school with this grade? Has anyone else dealt with this?

Thanks!

I would plan on retaking Cs in prereq classes. GL!

I haven't been in that situation myself so I cannot speak from personal experience but I don't think a school will rule you out just for one C especially if you are a strong applicant across the rest of the board. Do you have specific schools you are interested in? You can look and see if there are other classes that can easily fulfill that requirement instead of retaking them. I think most of the GPA requirement stuff is to make sure you can handle the work load in PT school and GPA is just one means for them to gauge that. That being said you still need to be competitive as possible because someone may have a nearly identical application as you except they got an A where you got a C. If all else is equal, their choice may boil down to that one grade. With so many people applying to PT school, why wouldn't they choose the ones with the highest scores/grades? That's what you have to convince them of in your application. Without more specific information about your stats that's about as much advice I can give.

If your other stats are competitive, don't bother. If you feel like you need all the GPA you can get, retake it.

I ended up with a C for both Physics I and Physics II, and I was fine.

I'm looking at all the schools in Minnesota and Wisconsin, thank you!

I agree with the others. It really depends on which schools you are wanting to apply to.

I made C's in A&P Lecture I+II and Chem II and still got accepted into a program. If I had the option and wanted to wait to apply again, then I probably would have retaken them. But, it's really up to you in the end.

Good luck!

I also got accepted into a program with multiple Cs (C+ in upper division A&P 1/2, PHYS 1 and CHEM 1, and a C in CHEM 2). It's definitely possible but it's getting more and more competitive each year. Good luck!

I got accepted in this year's cycle to 5 different schools with a C+ in Chem 1, a C in Chem 2, and a C+ in Physics 2. It's definitely possible to be accepted to schools. Just make sure to get a decent GRE score, good recommendations, a wide variety of shadowing hours, and APPLY EARLY.

You got this! Don't let anyone tell you that you won't be accepted because of a few C's. It can be done! 🙂

C+ in chem2 (A- in chem1), C- in ochem2 (A in ochem1). 162/162/4.5 GRE, weak interview skills (I get nervous when being drilled for info). Rejected thrice, waitlisted 5 times, accepted outright once. Depends on your non-GPA game!

Can you contact the program director or someone else high up at the schools you're looking into and ask them directly?
Better question for anyone else in the thread: is it a good idea to do what I just suggested or is that likely to mar your record?

To all you guys who got in with C's did you retake? If not that is shocking to me.

To be honest, I did retake the lab and lecture for A&P II. I withdrew from the lecture portion because I would not make higher than my first attempt--a C. I received a B in the lab portion where I received a C- the first time. But I did not retake Chem II (lecture+lab) nor did I retake A&P I lecture. My idea for applying this cycle was simply for the heck of it. I knew applying that I had a very, very small chance of getting into a program but, there are always those outliers that get accepted. Had I not got accepted into a program, I would have retaken those courses I received C's in and applied again.

I hope this helps!

I never had the time to retake the classes (I'm currently a senior in undergrad and didn't want to take a year off) so I applied with the 3 C's on my transcript and was accepted to 5 schools.

WTF that is nice where did you apply and where are you from

I applied to UNC (accepted), MUSC(accepted), Nova Southeastern(accepted), Elon(accepted), Georgia State (accepted), Mayo (had an interview, waitlisted), Emory (had an interview, waitlisted), NYU (rejected), and Boston U (rejected)

seeing a bunch of people saying they got c's in some classes but still got accepted. so..did you have a high gpa besides those, was your gre super high, or did you have a lot of observation hours?

I got C's in Chem 1 and Chem II and did not retake them. Got accepted to Northwestern and had interviews at Miami, UNMC, and an offer at UNC Chapel Hill. My last few semesters of undergrad I really kicked it in gear and worked to get my grades up. I made sure to mention that in my essays/interviews. A couple of the faculty I interviewed with acted like it wasn't a huge deal- they saw the improvement and the effort I put in to get my grades up and that carried more weight than a couple chemistry classes I took 3 years ago. One of them even said something to the effect of, "Oh I know we're all 18 years old at some point and grades might not be the biggest priority at that time."

Make sure the rest of your app is solid and expect to address that in your essays and interviews.

Cumulative GPA: 3.6
Pre-Req GPA: 3.16
Combined Science and Math: 3.08 (ouch)
Last 60 hours: 3.9ish
GRE: V:157, Q:155, W:4.0

Hi!
I have a C- in chem 1 (went on to get an A in chem 2) , but most schools don't accept C-, what program did you apply for that were chill with a C-?
