According to Kaplan if a lysosome ruptures within a cell, hydrolytic enzymes of the lysosome would digest organelles and kill the cell. But I read in a cell bio text that hydrolytic enzymes of the lysosome are active only in the low pH of a lysosome. The usual pH of the cytoplasm is around 7.2. Would this not deactivate the hydrolytic lysosomal enzymes? If anyone can clarify this a little further, please do.
Thanks

so you're telling me if i rip open your stomach and pour the acidic stomach into neutral water...the neutral water wouldnt be acidic?...

i kid i kid

but yes...enzymes work at "OPTIMAL" temperature and pH....but they can still work outside their ranges...to some extent, but not at optimal levels....
