A list of schools not accepting Out of State?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I couldn't find one, or at least a reputable one. Can someone help?

Thanks

Some of the schools that really prefer in state are William Carey, VCOM, WVSOM, Ohio, Oklahoma, Des Moines, and Michigan.

WVSOM takes tons of out of state students. Large class size, few applicants from WV, high tuition for OOS.

From the Class of 2014 profile, only 21% of the students are from Iowa. DMU takes a lot of out of state students. They don't have a bias against OSS.

I would def say OUCOM, MSUCOM, William Carey, and Oklahoma State are def the biggest ones.

PNWU has a regional preference from what I hear.

William Carey and Pikeville defintely prefer in state or, region applicants.

William Carey takes about 5-10 students each from Louisiana and Arkansas. The rest are from Mississippi.

Thanks for the replies. But there is no official site, list or catalog with this info?

As a general rule state funded schools prefer resident applicants. This is usually shown either in preferential admissions or ridiculously high OOS rates.

I'm calling partial BS here. WVSOM's stats (if a previous post thread is correct) takes people from the middle Appalachians as a huge percent (70%?) of their class. So Virgina, West Virginia, N/S Carolina. I know its not one state, but the school services that area exclusively among the DO schools, and draws a huge amount of their students from there.

OUCOM, VCOM, William Carey, and PWNW clearly told me not to apply unless I had super stellar competitive stats as they have a big in state/regional preference...

Does anyone know the recent class profile for Oklahoma and Pikeville?

The DO school in Texas, can't remember the name, takes 90% of it's students in-state according to their website.

even oucom? damn, i submitted my primary there. hopefully its not a waste since im from nj

OUCOM takes roughly 20% of out of state applicants BUT I heard you have to sign a 5 year contract to work in rural/under served area of Ohio upon completion of your degree/residency???

anyone want to confirm this?

it says it right on their website. I am very well aware of the contract. I do not believe that its forces you to work in rural/underserved areas but I believe it forces you to practice in ohio. also if you do your residency in ohio it goes towards your contract (from my search on SDN) so for instance, if you did a residency in primary care, every year of that residency contributes 1.5 years to your contract and every year of residency if you go into a specialization and do your residency in ohio it places one year towards your contract. If I am lucky enough to recieve a supplemental then I will list everything that the contract requires. if you decide to search further there is plenty of information on this website about it but yes, there is definitly a contract.

btw there is also a buyout option as well. I was just hoping that since I am more than willing to stay and practice in ohio since i have family there that they would take a look at me (and since im willing to sign the contract and ESPECIALLY since my goal is to live and practice in a rural area because i like hunting/fishing/farming/horses/kayacking etc).

called UNE and they take 70 percent in state.... what about nycom? it says on there website 80 percent in state?

une takes mostly from the northeast.

same as nycom. they are both regionally biased.

thats NOT fair that these schools are private and biased...CCOM isn't gonna give me preference since I live in Chicago....NONE of the Midwest schools give state preference except MSU-COM and DMUCOM and even then I get no regional love🙁

story of my life. 😀 gonna persevere through!

not trying to add fuel to the fire but DMU doesnt have a regional preference. im pretty sure.

VCOM and Pikeville, iirc, are both heavily biased towards applicants from the Appalachian region.

TCOM has an extreme preference for Texas applicants.

UNECOM is weird - despite having lived in NH for 10 years before college, they were the only school I applied to that rejected me outright (after sending me a Christmas card - wtf?).

just a fun fact. VCOM views NJ as bieng part of the appalacian region. I because part of its southern area technically is and probably because UMDNJ allows them to rotate through some of their hospitals as well.

I don't think it is all of NJ. Just a couple SW counties. I am from Ohio and its the same way... just the counties in the SE part of the state qualify as "appalachian".
