So we all know schools send out the first batch of acceptances on dec 1. Do waitlists and rejections also go out Dec 1, or do schools tend to send those more slowly? What has everyone heard from different schools?

Also, does this mean if you don't get a rejection or waitlist letter before New Years you can expect to be in the next batch of acceptances?

...10 more days!

During my interview at Louisville, they told us that we will know the status of our application no matter what on Dec. 1st.

Just had my interview at NYU and they said the same thing as Louisville. Accepted, Rejected, or Waitlisted, you will know by a letter being snail-mailed on Dec. 1. So around Dec. 3-4 for NYU folk.

NYU told me the same thing as what they've told Paulie's group. My interview was Oct 23.

I had my interview this week. Dr. Mejia was adamant about snail mailing the letters on Dec 1, and even more so for us not to call asking what our status was. 😀

How long until we actually receive notification?

Snail mail takes 2-4 days so probably the earliest dec 3

Damn. Well at least that potentially sets me up for a good weekend haha

Does anyone know how Columbia sends letters? Do their waitlist and reject letters go out Dec 1 too?

anyone know whats the process with UF about dec. 1st?...

I think as much as schools do try to inform everyone who interviewed pre Dec about their status there will be many people who will not hear anything Dec 1. For most schools they do not really start forming their waitlist until Feb when they send 2 rounds of acceptances and received deposits for them.
Most schools also do not start rejecting until Feb March...
Those are desirable by the school as "first rate" will get acceptances, those who will fade against background of other applicants might be put into waitlist but there will be plenty of "twilight" zone people where school is simply not ready to make decision and needs more time...
lets say school interviews 300 people pre Dec for 100 spots. Come Dec 1 they give acceptances for 100 seats, put about 50 people for waitlist and reject bottom 50 applicants... it still will leave 100 candidates who were " not so desirable" to recieve acceptance first round but they could be looked very favorable after first deposits are in... so there is pretty good chance they will be reviewed in Jan and receive acceptances second round...
obviously it is more prominent for the schools with high tuition
