I think you've got the wrong idea of professors. With the way college students are, they are usually happy when students express interest in doing well. He's not gonna think less of me, I missed an A+ by a point. If I was a prof., I'd be happy to change someones grade if I made a mistake. It would make me feel worse if later I realized I missed something, and didn't give someone what they deserved and could not do anything about it

There is a difference between wanting to do well and being a gunner looking for free points since you couldnt earn them with intelligence. Since you are in the latter group, dont expect any respectable professor to hook you up... 🙄

Yeah, I hate arrogant idiots like you, and I am glad I will never see you in real life. Hopefully no patients will have to either, I would fear for their safety.

I've got an idea. Someone who knows how should start a poll. If you were less than 1 pt away from an A+, and you know there was a clerical mistake on an exam, would you go see your prof about changing the A to an A+? Keep in mind scholarship and research funding committees see transcript to determine funding. I think that'll settle the issue.

you do realize that if you weren't acting like an arrogant smart-ass in half your posts, half the people here wouldn't be pissed at you.

and you don't really know if there was a clerical error by the grader. You may have been the source of it. If you really care that much (and no, those groups won't care whether you got an A or A+), then make sure the professor likes you, don't come off as arrogant (which you have done here a lot), and avoid appearing like a grade-grubber to him.

Rendar, you've obviously got the begging for grade technique down solid. Any more golden nuggets of advice?

I would like to expound on that. I have no problems with people wanting the grades they deserve. But I do have a huge problem with UCIPMED's hubris. The beauty of hubris, however, is the tragic downfall.

You might be anonymous now UCIPMED, but you can't hide your arrogance from people forever. One day you will slip up bigtime in real life, and it wont be to other premeds, it will be to a resident, a professor, a boss. You play a dangerous game with your arrogant attitude, and even if it doesnt affect you adversely 99% of the time, I guarantee that the 1% will catch up with you.

never asked for a grade increase in my life because I knew the hassle of getting a regrade outweighted the difference the grade would make. (The conflicts never arose over multiple choice tests, unfortunately..., those I wouldn't have a problem asking for a regrade on). I've also never raised a student's grade because he asked for it either. (I have manipulated curves to get people the grades I know they deserve, though).

So yes, one more golden nugget of advice I neglected to mention:
if it was a multiple choice test, then get it regraded by all means.

To sum up:
no difference to med schools whether it's an A+ or an A. Very little difference to research opportunities. At least half of your posts are arrogant and sarcastic which is why so many people hate you right now. Make sure this doesn't happen in real life because it will severely hurt your LoR's. If the exam is a pain in the butt to grade, it will annoy your prof to regrade it. If it's multiple choice you have nothing to lose. If the professor sees anything you do as kissing up or grade-grubbing, from personal experience, I know it will piss him off and you'll be a story to pass on to colleagues.

Gleevac, you've changed my life. My attitude problem is serious. I now realize that the 1+ year I've spent at a free clinic establishig great rapport with patients has all been fake. Also, the 6 months plus working an an EMT dealing with hundreds of patients with out a single negative report must have been a fluke. I, just like all other pre-meds who don't fit you definition of a good pre-med, are ticking time bombs. Look out.

Rendar, if you've taught college courses, what are you doing on a pre-med forum??? Looks like a typical case of scary old guy still trying to get into medicine syndrome. Tragic.

I'm 22, out of college, working as a lab technician and taught a class of gchem lab students (19) in the last semester of my senior year. Check with the chemistry department at Columbia if you don't believe me. Kim Granger and Qazi Hai were my supervisors. There's also Luis Avila in the Chem department who knows me really well. Though good luck getting in contact with him, he's always busy.

Hmmm, sounds a little shady. I'll need your blood type and your mother maiden name as well.

B- and "Fine". Just don't expect my checking account #, credit card #, SSN, or AMCAS ID.

though I'll be 23 when I start med school. Below the average age, but still old. I'll have to use a walker by the time I start classes. 🙁

What a *****.

You don't know how many people you inadvertently (I guess) included in this insult. FYI, not everybody goes to med school after undergrad... 🙄

another sdn pre-allo classic..fairly recent vintage though

I agree with getting what you deserve but at the same time, is it really that serious.. if I had got a B in a class but had a great semester and partied my butt off..I wouldn't care..there are *gasp* more things to life than grades...😱

Yeah, you are in a group of people I think are ticking time bombs. I think I need to introduce you to crazee8. You two should get married, you would be perfect for each other.

I'm also glad that I will never have to see you in real life, I can only hope the same for patients-- for their sake.

UCIPMED we should introduce you to squat and squeeze.

You guys would be best buddies. Anyone know wwhat happened to him, haven't seen him in a while?

This is has gone on for 4 pages, and those of you who are arguing against this guy is making this thread worse than it started. If he bothers you, ignore him.

Just so I add my .02, i do agree that the original post was funny. If you got the answer right, and you know you did...good for you...maybe you'll use that knowledge in life. But, seeing is how it won't affect your grade any, don't even think about it.

-peace in the middle east

UCIPMED, you're a freakin penis. People like you drive me nuts.

 This has to be a joke. I'm also a UCI undergrad and I've spent 2+ years volunteering at this same clinic (the only free clinic in the OC), and you have got to be kidding me if you think you established "a great rapport with patients" there. Unless you were a translator and actually worked with the patients for more than 2 seconds, you have no right to claim such. I beleive you spent the majority of your time in the front office doing all the boring office work no one else wants to do, and taking someone's temp is really not a meaningful thing. Calm down, and control your attitude now that you still have time before interviews (if you do get any, I realize that A may have screwed you over).

Although this troll is typical of a UCI gunner, most UCI anteaters are not this arrogant and rude.

I promised myself I wouldn't post on this thread again, but... Hey Chap! Mount Sinai too!! You are CRAZY!! Did you work at that clinic as a translator? That must have been cool!

congratulations bro....loyola is sweeeet.

Hi,
I am an MSIII who was looking over my brother's shoulder as he browsed this website. I saw your message and I burst out laughing. How the difference between your A and A+ distinguishes you as a medical school candidate is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. I know it's difficult at this stage but I would resist the temptation to obsess over numbers, etc...otherwise you are truly on the road to becoming what we call a gunner in the med school community. Seriously, live your life and save your soul.
