Super excited for everyone's NYCPM invites but also slightly worried that they don't accept a lot of people post interview does anyone know if they do?? I'm like paranoid that they just are interviewing me for the heck of it lol

Congrats! Mind sharing your stats? Didnt realize my science gpa was so low. BTW if you disagree with certain calculations, can you let them know or something?
I don't have great stats. My first year of college was basically all C's with a strong upwards trend. Last 3 years of college was all A's and B's and maybe 2 C's. All that and I still got a 3.04 sGPA and a 3.02 cumulative. My mcat was 493. I do have stellar EC.

Hey. I read somewhere on another thread that they wouldn't allow interviews unless they saw something they liked. The interview is to determine what kind of character you are and how they like you sort of thing. I hear from a lot of people that the interview is very laid back and asked questions like, "What is your favorite hobby?","what do you do for fun?", and "why do you want to be a podiatrist?" Relax man. We are in this together and will succeed.

I would say that's mostly correct. They would not waste their time interviewing you if they weren't interested. Y'all just don't blow your interviews and you'll be fine.

However, I have heard from some people that NYCPM really went in on them at the interview, like really grilled them but ultimately they got accepted there. Overall, you'll all be fine, but just be prepared to defend any part of your application that's less than stellar and definitely check out the interview feedback section. Temple's interviews are more laid back than you can imagine, perhaps the most laid back of all the schools. Most of the other schools fall somewhere inbetween Temple and NYCPM from what I've seen, as far as stress of interview. Still none are near as stressful as an MD school interview. Of course aside from the trends at each school it will also depend on your specific interviewer since most schools have multiple interviewers. Then add to that the fact that schools like AZPod and NYCPM may be prone to having multiple people interview you at the same time, like a 2 on 1 or 3 on 1 interview, and you'll never really know 100% what to expect.

Thanks for the encouragement and the information. Where is this interview feedback section? Others have said this too, but I'm not sure where it's at.

You and @Bob rock thank you for the reassurance. It means so much so it's hard not to lose it haha

Go to the desktop version of SDN, not the mobile version. Near the top of the page there should be a link for the interview feedback section. Search for a school and you'll get tons of info. Take time to go through the "specific questions they asked" section and keep in mind that there should be a "show more" option that will expand to show you dozens of responses that past interviewees have submitted

Technically, it's on the mobile version as well, you just have to search a bit more to get there because the menus are set up differently. The desktop version is more straight-forward in that regard.

Wow, there are so many questions that I have to consider. Not at all bad or difficult, I just want to make sure I can defend myself when the time comes.

There are definitely a lot of recurring questions, so that interview feedback section is one of the best resources y'all have available. Just make sure that after your interviews you go back and contribute as well for future applicants.

My stats are literally what mowensmike posted. Everything around a 3 and a 493 mcat but I retook classes so I have a huge upward trend from straight failing to A's my junior year and a million extra curriculars

I definitely will. We are all in this together and as much help it gave me, so shall I return the favor.

They will accept you if they think you are a good fit in their program. Just make sure you prepare for the interview (mine was pretty tough at NYCPM).

Did you just have the interview, get in, or which? I heard NYCPM is a little tougher on interviews.

I interviewed there. Out of the couple schools I interviewed at, NYCPM was the most difficult. If you have mediocre GPA and MCAT score, be prepared to answer questions involving your numbers and how you will succeed in their program.

They focused entirely on my MCAT and GPA (they didn't seem to care about my ECs). They mentioned that people with higher stats than mine got accepted and ultimately failed, since their program is "way more difficult" than other pod schools (boasted that their graduation rate was less than 70%) and wanted to know how I would not fail in their program or try to keep up in order not to fail, things of that nature. Overall, it felt more like an interrogation than an interview.

Don't let my experience scare or intimidate you. You might have a completely different experience.

Yea, I think NYCPM has tests every week or something and it's kinda like a boot camp. HOWEVER, after starting pod school recently I could appreciate how having a test every week would force you to stay on top of the material. It's a massive amount of info to learn, like drinking from a firehose, and if you fall behind you're screwed.

Did you get accepted? If you mind me asking? I am preparing this week on my responses and what I can do to excel. I have personally failed and came back even stronger, looking at my grades. I am not scared. . . I am determined.

App verified fully within 24 hrs (less than actually).

Please don't be an idiot like me and think that your verification of transcripts occurs as soon as they receive them.

You need to have all materials uploaded, pick the programs you want to have sent to, and pay- before they start verifying.

after starting pod school recently

Yeah... I was like, "doesn't Bob start this fall, or is he at one of those September schools?"

Anyway, I don't think I need to state how much some of us really appreciate your help, input, and "knowledge" around these parts. It's obviously too soon now, but would you consider writing about your first year experience at some point?

I think there's actually a thread for that stuff; not entirely sure. Want to read your $0.02

I'm trying to schedule all my interviews in one week. Is that too crazy?
so far i'm thinking kent on the 27th, nyc on the 29th, temple on the 30th
is that doable?

From a previous thread I've heard that's actually pretty smart.

You knock them all out so you don't have to waste school time or spreading it too thin.

Its also more efficient cause you're coming fresh from one interview to another so you're already on top of your game.

All transcripts received by AACPMAS. From what I am reading above I should expect verification to be quick. Will I receive an interview invite without MCAT scores. I am taking the test tomorrow

Invite from Kent.

Verification was done this morning at 9am.

Almost thought it was spam when I opened it cause it was so quick.

Not sure what to do right now. Lol.
I just got an email this morning from Kent saying they got my app and will review it in the coming weeks. Did you ever get that one or did it go straight to invite

"Received verified application through AACPMAS, invite to official campus visit and interview"

Even has a link for me to click on and schedule.

Only email I got from them (havn't even sent my recs out yet) so I'm guessing it went straight to interview?

I guess it just depends if you can get around to those places without feeling real stressed in a week

stats? 😛

488- 493- 496 MCAT

Undergrad: 3.2 cGPA, 2.9-3.0 sGPA (estimating non-grade replacement)
Grad: 3.75

Research for 2+ years, part time on campus jobs (tutoring, student disabilities), shadowing about 40hrs total across 2 different DPMS.

I'm honestly on the weaker end of the spectrum.

Sounds doable, PA NY and Ohio are all around each other and it'd save travel fees if you're flying. I'm from Philly and I take trains to NYC all the time and it's under 2 hours and $15

With stats like that, was the masters program really necessary?

I firmly believe you'll get in if you work hard and play your cards right.

Thanks. I'll not give up! I'm just concerned about timing because I'll not have everything ready for verification until about spring '17. MCAT is in January so depending on the score, I'll not know until much later. By that time I'm concerned most of the seats will be gone and it will be super competitive for the remaining spots.

Finishing my Masters this May. The debt load sucks but there were a few factors why:

1) Felt my undergrad performance (specifically in the sciences) was too weak. Taking courses like neurochem, pharm, advance anat/phys, biomechanics, toxicology at grad school level really helped hone in study habits and course load.

2) Knew if I stayed home and worked to help my family financially, I'd lose motivation and would probably take 2-3 gap years anyways

3) Wanted to get out of the house and grow up. Parents were very restrictive and it was time to have that "my career not yours" convo.

I'm coming from a family where all the relatives expect you to have 3.7-3.8s and go straight to MD/DO programs cause they did the same thing.

Getting to move out and suggest something besides the "MD or GTFO" mentality was extremely difficult, but worth it.

Haha my family is the exact same way. MD or gfto... After I explained what Podiatry is they were all like "what really? that's actually super cool" and now I have cousins that want to be podiatrists. Lol...
I think your grad program really helped you and was a good choice :claps:

same position as you when it comes to the family situation. I first discovered pod when I was a sophomore and they crushed that dream. So I then turned to a life of parties, drinking, and chasing women.

Now I'm back to "the one that almost got away" - pod. I haven't had the talk with my parents yet, but I'm much tougher now than when I was a sophomore. Congrats on winning them over. I think at first they'll [my parents] be disappointed but white coat ceremony might change all of that.

Your masters really seemed like it did you a lot of good. I asked because I had awful grades and was considering a masters too, but I spoke with some schools and they said to apply since they consider every aspect of the app. Also upward trends are looked upon favorably. And since I have a degree already, all the classes I'm taking and retaking now are sort of considered "post-bacc".

Congrats once again

Congrats on winning them over. It's a very serious issue that some people go through. I was very miserable and stressed in college because I wanted to please my parents. It's something I wouldn't wish on my enemies.

Focus on the test and kill it.

Most schools will not look at your app with outall 3 things in: Transcript, essay, MCAT scores.

Makes sense because some of the schools screen automatically by numbers. If you don't have MCAT in its like an "incomplete" in the system and they just have it on hold til you do.

I didn't exactly win them over. More like "Hey we're gonna fight about this every month when I'm home but I'm too far away and too busy working/schooling/shadowing in another city to deal with the drama" lol.

I hated having that notgiveas*** attitude and ignoring their frustration but I was getting no where listening to them. Didn't help that extended family who were well to do MD were giving me s*** about it too.

But hey, they love me and I get it. Work your ass off and stay humble.

How much would completing a podiatry internship help your chances of getting an interview/acceptance?

I feel you. I still sometimes think in the back of my mind that they are still disappointed that i'm not going for MD. I figured though, they just want me to be happy and successful. I promised them that this will happen, I will work my butt off in pod school and become the best foot doc I can be and I'm sure i will make them proud (we will) 😀

No I did not get accepted. The interview threw me off and left a bad taste in my mouth. Tbh, I kind of stopped trying during the interview. I didn't feel like I would grow/improve/learn well in their program. Hopefully you will have a different experience than me lol. Good luck with your interview.

I am so sorry to hear that! I wish it was different for you. Hopefully there are more interviews?!
