aacpmas 2016/2017 cycle

Would I include all the semesters I was on the Dean's List as an "award'? Also, would research be considered employment or an extracurricular activity? I was not paid for it. And where can I add any publications/presentations?
I put being on the dean's list as an award and if you have any scholarships I did that too. Idk it didn't really explain anything so I just went with it. For research I did it as an extracurricular activity and there is an option for volunteer if you weren't paid. As for publications, I know Kent has a specific part on there application to upload like 3 different publications but as for anywhere else I have no idea. Hope this helps!

1) Yes. Would just type it in as 1 award and mention in description which semesters they were for.
2) Extracurricular
3) I would add publications as achievements and presentations as Extracurricular (unless you placed in a contest, then put it in achievements)

I think we just need to put it on the back burner and focus on other stuff.

No point stressing out now when you've submitted and done your best right?

There's gonna be more to worry about once we get in, and more to worry about once we start scrambling for residencies.

Just go with the flow and focus on school and life in general while we still can.
So true with the no point in stressing thing. I was so stressed about getting rec letters and thought I'd be all smiles when I did but then I got them and was worried about interviews but thought I'd be happy if I got one and now I got one and I'm more stressed than before lol it never ends people

lol and even after you get accepted you'll think about how you're going to do in school. Then you'll think about how you'll do on boards. Then landing a residency. Landing a nice job. Being good at your job. Lol 😀

It's nice we have this subsection to provide support for each other.

Is anyone aware--with a high degree of certainty--which schools screen and which ones don't? It'll really help me reduce my $500+ application fee if I can get an idea of who will actually look at my entire app vs. Who will let a computer toss out my app. This is what I have so far

Does NOT screen:
-NYCPM
-KENT

DOES screen:
-BARRY
-TEMPLE

any help will be greatly appreciated

Got the confirmation email for NYCPM for my interview Tuesday!! Everyone pray for me lol I'm trying very hard to practice but not too much so I don't sound rehearsed, and it's just making me even more anxious lol
You will do great and you WILL tell us how it goes, no matter how bad! 🙂 I am preparing myself. Goodluck

I'm praying for you. Would like to know how it went. Are you for the January or September start date? Did you submit letter of Rec before interview invite?

Are yall mostly using SDN interview questions to practice?

And how do I answer questions that ask "Why x-school?"

Digging around the forums for stuff like "So and So has really nice campus" but I've never been to a majority of these schools in person. Just basing my questions off of what I've read from the students here.

I've noticed that each website likes to show off what they have to offer so I go based off of that. For example why NYCPM? You could say the urban setting allows for a lot of opportunities for learning in the clinic because of the larger patient pool

Adding on to what @benzenering214 said, you can also look at school statistics on the websites and talk about that during your interview

I didn't apply to CSPM, but I got an email from DMU last friday saying that they had received my application and it's under review. They said to expect to hear back from them in 2 weeks with a decision. However, I don't know if everyone got that email, or if others actually got an ii.

Just a heads up.

The application for WICHE is September 15th. If you live in a participating state you need to start your app asap. Even if you haven't been accepted to a school you need to contact your state rep and get the process started.

That's cool for those states. Didn't know about that

I received an ii from CSPM today. DMU sent me an email on Monday the 22nd saying my app was on hold pending my official MCAT. I don't expect to hear from them for another week, my MCAT should be verified by then.

I actually haven't submitted by LORs yet, I have ii to Temple, Kent, and CSPM. I would definitely request the LOR if you haven't yet but I wouldn't be too worried about the time frame right now.

What type of LOR do we need and how many? Pretty sure none of my old professors remember me..

This is for NYCPM, so its best to check with each school's site for their specifics- "Request three letters of recommendation or pre-health committee evaluation to be sent to NYCPM via mail or Interfolio"

If you request three letters, ideally, one should be from a DPM and other from science professors, other healthcare providers, etc.

Well I'm screwed

Well I'm screwed

You can get one from a DPM after shadowing, right? The other, if not from a professor, MD/DO, then maybe a former employer? Also, many are getting interview invites without submitting LORs, so if your stats are fine, you may not need them right away!

I went through something similar..Just some advice: I looked at what classes I did the best in and e-mailed those profs asking for a LOR. When one accepted, I personally went to her office and gave her a letter explaining (as well as personally explained to her) why I was interested in Podiatry and my CV . She wrote me an amazing letter. I also got her a giftcard after to show my appreciation. Just show your passion and let them know your circumstance and you should be just fine.🙂) :xf:

+1 for CSPM ii.

High chance I'll run into some of you guys hehe.

That scheduling around school and work doe :/
Yeah I have to schedule around work as well. I basically said that I am going to this interview and if you will not allow me to take off time; Yeah this isn't going to be my career forever. lol My interview is Oct 3rd. Wanted it earlier because I shelling out so much money to fly already!

Oh hey der Oct. 3rd buddy.

Same haha

Right, i'm taking over a week off of school & work... 😳 stressed

No dude completely understand.

My grad courses are mostly night classes.

There's literally no way around the time or cost. The amount I have left over from loans which was supposed to be an emergency fund is going straight to this stuff right now while work money is going to necessities.

Just glad my #1 pick got back to me so early so I potentially don't have to go to 5+ interviews.

I have my NYCPM interview tomorrow and I just realized the confirmation email doesn't list a specific building to show up to; just the address of the college overall. Does anyone know from past experience where to go lol

First of all, GOOD LUCK! 🙂 I've been there before so i might be of some help, go through the main entrance at the front and you should be greeted by someone inside (when I went in there was a security guard that greeted me and I had to sign in) so i'm assuming it'll be similar, it's small so it is really easy 🙂

Hey guys I need y'all advice.

I have a 3.5 overall and science GPA and am taking the mcat in January.
I am not worried about the MCAT, but, I have a feeling my EC's are NOT up to par.

I only have one year of volunteering (hands on/shadowing) at a free clinic, and over 100 hours of pod shadowing. I have worked at my parents store for 5 years (not medically related).

Do you guys think it's even worth it for me to apply for this cycle or should I sit this one out and gain more EC's via non-clinical volunteering and a caregiver job I have applied for???

Your ECs are fine. As far as pod applications are concerned it's more about getting something meaningful out of these experiences rather than the actual number of hours. There are plenty of people who get accepted with way fewer than 100 hours of pod shadowing. As long as you can speak to your experiences and can articulate why podiatry is right for you, then you've got nothing to worry about.

I can't seem to find anything online... When sending transcripts, is there a way to do it rather than taking the transcript request form personally to each school? Like can I just request the transcripts online and put my AACPM ID # in the address or something? Sorry if this is a dumb question..

You should be able to order transcript requests through your school's website (Registrar's office). Once you finish the order, you can either mail/fax/or attach the transcript cover page from AACPMAS to the transcript order. The cover page has your AACPM ID #, along with the address.
