B.S in health sciences and minored in religious studies. Went to grad school for my MPH at a MD school with a concentration in epidemiology and environmental health sciences.. took a lot of biostats/epidemiology/toxicology grad level courses.

Opening this back up to see how first year went?
In my 2nd semester of first year. I'm learning a lot, taking on 2-3 leadership positions, 2x monthly volunteering, started research, and also just attended the ACFAS conference this past weekend. Definitely not a gunner, but for sure top 1/3 of the class in terms of academics. Also manage to still go out for with friends for drinks once a week without stressing too much about studying.
Honestly, I'm having a real good time. Maybe the negatives just hasn't hit me yet and I'm just really naïve and oblivious to it all. Mostly just concerned about boards.
I have around the same mcat score! Any advice with applying? I am mainly shooting for DO with my 3.7 cGPA and 3.5 cgpa. strong ec's tho1. GPAs: cGPA 3.7 sGPA 3.4
2. MCAT Score: 491
3. Shadowing hours & ECs: 40 hours shadowing DPM, 50 hours shadowing MD; Hospital volunteer in SICU, NICU, & playing piano (100), food bank (100), crisis text line (100), hospice volunteer, children's shelter volunteer, PhiDE medical fraternity, pre-med society, sustainability committee, worked in a surgical office
4. # of programs applied to: 7; NY, Barry, Temple, MWU, RF, Kent, Western (Interview offers for all; interviewed at NY & Barry)
5. Programs accepted to and if any Scholarships offered: NY & Barry 10K
6. Attending program: NY
You'll get in any school you want.I have around the same mcat score! Any advice with applying? I am mainly shooting for DO with my 3.7 cGPA and 3.5 cgpa. strong ec's tho

I am not sure that this is the right thing to tell someone and give them false hope. A 491 will make it extremely difficult to get into any program, so I do not think that "you'll get into any school you want." No disrespect to your reply at all. aamber, your GPA is very solid and if you have great EC's, it would make a lot more sense to retake the MCAT. Even if you can get like a 496-497 you will be way better off. And this is coming from someone who has a lower score as well. But I personally have never heard of someone getting in with a score below 495. A 491 with great EC's and a good gpa will only give you like a 2-3% chance. I am telling you this because I want the best for you and am rooting for you, and would hate to see your hard work not turn into what you want because you decided to gamble with your MCAT score. Wishing you all the best. I know you have what it takes to be a great doc. You'll get in any school you want.
Just make sure its what you want to do.
This is a really nice message, appreciate it!! I was thinking of applying to LECOM with my AIS (1220 SAT and a 3.7 gpa) making it 119. I know a 1220 is not the best, but it is worth applying to all the LECOM locations. Probably should apply early in the cycle? Problem is I’m low on shadowing hours and and non clinical volunteering. I can submit with projected hours cause I’m currently working on getting more. But I feel like that would look bad…like yk integrity wise. I have about 700 clinical hours, good amount leadership, and research experience.I am not sure that this is the right thing to tell someone and give them false hope. Reason for my low MCAT is cause well maybe my studying habits/laziness, but also I graduated with a BA in psychology so only took prereqs on the side, my foundation is wonky…This is a really nice message, appreciate it!!
