So I guess the manipulation of units makes sense..
I didn't know that an E field could be given in V/m though. Is there an equation for this or is it just some convoluted derivation/manipulation of F=qE?

V=Ed; E=V/D (=J/C*m)
F=qE; E=F/q (=N/C)

E = V/M or N/C.

It is very helpful to know the units of these things.

Voltage = (N*m)/C

so you just divide by distance and you got N/C which is the units of an E field.

You can manipulate these in helpful ways so you don't have to memorize all the equations.

(N*m)/C multiplied by charge in C will give you units of energy (N*m)

Yea I don't have a problem manipulating equations, but it takes me much longer when I'm trying to manipulate units (instead of symbols for those units) and it's often counterproductive.
