Just found out today that I’ve been waitlisted at my dream school, Cornell. I would absolutely love to attend there, but I’ve also been accepted by my second choice, Pitt. WL movement likely won’t start until May. I’m tired of playing the waiting game but I don’t think I’m quite ready to give up. Relevant pros/cons:
Cornell
Cornell
- Debt-free initiative - this would be amazing for me, coming from a working class family and being a first-gen student. My parents, who have worked nonstop to help pay for my education, would be so relieved.
- Huge focus on global medicine - my intended career path
- Support for the arts and the Music & Medicine Initiative - music is one of my biggest passions
- Just really loved the vibe on interview day
- Went to Pitt for undergrad; I like Pittsburgh a lot, but would really like to move to a new city and get a fresh start
- Close to home (1 hour vs. 6 hours for Cornell) - mostly a positive but family could also be distracting
- Roughly the same opportunities/prestige as Cornell
- Better housing situation than Cornell
