So this year I have received 6 interviews. I put my deposit down at one school, waitlisted at 3 others, and am preparing for 2 more (with possibly more invites coming). The trick about this is that I have NO IDEA what these schools are going to do. The waitlist provides zero useful information when it comes to this issue.

So what do you do as far as putting down deposits goes... considering the cycle isn't over? I don't even know how I could afford another one at 2k per school.

I would only put down one deposit and hope for your number one eventually will bring you off the waitlist to which you will forfeit your previous deposit. I however dont have this dilemma since I got into my number one choice and they don't require a deposit, so goodluck.

hold on to the one you have, if you get off a waitlist, or get into one of the others, go from there. if your deposit is on a school that is your number 1 or close, you should be ok, but if you would rather go somewhere else, sorry, you lose the $2k. Not all deposits are that high though. In fact, most aren't.

We should have a list of deposits per school. That could help applicants a lot.

UNE's deposit is really 2K. $500 due within 30 days, then $1500 due within 60 days.

RVUCOM is 2k, 500 first deposit 1.5k second deposit.

Incorrect. RVUCOM has revised its deposit structure to provide accepted candidates with more time to make an informed decision. The first deposit is $250, second is $750 and the third (due May 1) is $1000.

you can sometimes (at least at midwestern I think) get part of your deposit back if you withdraw from the class before a certain point.

so here is what western says:

Applicants accepted at Western University/COMP must pay an initial, non-refundable ―acceptance‖ deposit of $1,000, and a second non-refundable ―confirmation of acceptance‖ deposit of $1,000. Due dates for these two deposits are provided in the offer of acceptance letter. Upon matriculation the entire $2,000 deposit is applied toward the total tuition. For applicants who are granted deferred admission to the DO program an additional non-refundable deposit of $500 is required to hold a seat in the next year‘s class. If an applicant fails to register, all tuition deposits are forfeited.

they also say this:

Those accepted prior to November 15 will have
until December 1
• Those accepted between November 15 and
January 14 will have 30 days
• Those accepted between January 15 and May 14
will have 14 days
• Those accepted after May 15 may be asked for
an immediate deposit
• Earliest acceptance date: September 2011
• Latest acceptance date: August 2012
• Maximum time for applicant to accept offer:
Maximum time is 12 weeks.

but how do we reconcile "maximum time for applicant to accept offer" being 12 weeks? do we just say, "hey, can i have that 12 weeks, instead of your december 1 date?" (yes, i'm applying in june).

and if it's 2 deposits, each being $1K, when is the second $1K actually do, being that it's not on dec 1?

THANKS!

.....Thats just a larger deposit...... I get thaf its different than the above, but your deacription of why doesn't make sense. Wasn't the second deposit always may 1st? This just making you have fo make (a partial) decision even earlier.

DocEspana - That is not correct. The total amount of the deposit remains at $2000; it has not been increased. The first deposit is still due at the same time depending on when acceptance was granted (RVU follows the guidelines set forth by AACOMAS), it's just half of what it was before. The second deposit of $750 is due at the time when $1500 would have been due in previous years. All accepted candidates are now given until May 1 to make their decision prior to paying their final $1000 deposit. This was done to provide candidates with more time to make an informed decision prior to paying their full deposit. Just wanted to set the record straight...

yeah, it doesn't make sense to me, either. each school has different dates and amounts, and the way you describe it makes more sense.

is the may 1st deadline the deadline for all of them for the second deposit?

I honestly misread someone else's comment as rvu was 1.5k. I missed the "500 +" part that goes with it. So i thouhht it went from 1.5 to 2k. My bad.
