Why don't all schools follow the AACOMAS traffic guidelines for submitting a deposit once accepted? Just doesn't seem fair that some schools can require you to submit a couple thousand dollars within two weeks of acceptance. Anyone know why the same rules don't apply to all?

It is a good question, since I believe it is TUCOM that requires it within 2 weeks. But it isnt like they are greedy and you arent going to get it back, since you get $1900 of the $2000 back if you decline. I hope they arent that hard up for $100.

But even with them you can get an extension, like if you are waiting on other interview results. BUt you have to stay in contact with the admissions director at TUCOM-NV, CA so they know what your status is. This is what admissions said, anyway.

So basically.....good question!!

To labgirl, the same rules don't apply to all schools because they aren't *rules.* They're *recommendations.*

To droogdoc, the only Touro that does the partial ($1900) refund is NV. The only reason they do it is because it's NV law.

I'm pretty sure that the other Touros don't do this substantial of a refund, unless they changed the policy from last year.

Choclatebear...thanks. I thought it was both but I did know it was Nevada for sure. Thanks

Is there a list anywhere of schools and how long you have to put a deposit down and how much ? Btw what if you don't have that kinda cash in hand... idk about you guys but i will be taking out loans to pay for my education and since the deposit goes towards education and it can be $1000+, where could one come up with that money lol ... less than 1000 not the end of the world but i see some are like 1500 etc..

Credit card or a consumer loan for the amount. Both of which you can pay back with your tuition money if you budget correctly.

Luckily I got some cash saved (not much) because I cant imagine taking a loan to pay the deposit. Wow.

There are more than just deposits to worry about. Part of your planning must involve careful budgeting because you may need a lot of money before matriculation. If you are moving to a new area you will need to pay moving expenses, housing expenses (often deposit, and fisrst and last month's rent), utilities, books, supplies, clothes.... and you may also have to cover food and a month of regular expenses because you often don't get a refund check until 3 or 4 weeks after classes begin. Going to nedical school is a very expensive proposition and you have to prepare for it way in advance.

NSU requires $950 non-refundable!

I really feel sorry for you guys with those deposits, those numbers are just insane. You need a full fledged DO student revolt! They have a DO school at Michigan State......that's prime riot territory! Go, go, go!

I understand tha you have to budget and it is expensive. Budgeting wouldnt be the first time in my life. Like I said above I do have some money saved and should be OK, but definitely fall into that category where I really dont have much but am "too wealthy" to qualify for need-based items. The first year of med school may be OK but waiting on the refund is rough.

I know that most who attend school are in my position, but if tons of people have done it than I guess I can too. It just sucks becuase I figured when it comes down to it during the beginning of the semester I may be close to flat broke, literally.

That is they way I look at it droog, other people did it and I can too.

I'm going to take it one deposit at a time... I'm busting to save $2,000 for the TOURO deposits, and then if I get in somewhere else or get in to both TOURO CA and TOURO NV (I interview on 9/14, and 9/15 respectively), the lack of money for a deposit may help me narrow down the field a little.... This is of course best case scenario (in all likely hood there may be no need to worry about a deposit... but we're not talking about that yet)

It is listed in the CIB under the individual school's Financial Information section.
