Things that I thought went against me : My GPA
Things that went for me: Always doing something in the field of dentistry in United States. The day I got me ECE GPA I knew this would be a big hurdle for me. To overcome this or atleast to overshadow it I decided I will focus on doing something in United States. I joined as an observer in a dental clinic for a period of 9 months. During this time I gave my part1 and part 2. While researching about different schools I came across a fellowship program offered at UIC. I think this is the best thing that has happened to me in United States. Though I had to pay for the program I think it is worth every dime. So dont loose your hopes and have faith in yourself. Always focus on your positives instead of the negatives. If you focus on your negatives how do you except an outsider to see your positives. I know its easier said than done. But trust me I have been through like everyone else. Have faith and things will turn around in your favour. good luck to everyone and a big thanks to all members of SDN.👍

good luck to all those that are waiting!

It's not a bad idea, except for the fact that both of those threads are for acceptances 2 years apart (2008/9 and 2010/11), which is guaranteed to cause a lot of confusion in the future.
I think they are good the way they are. Thanks for the suggestion.

hi nile,
i don't want to be a bother, but looking at the 20008-200 thread i saw that in fact it is an older thread, started in dec. 2005...so i was guessing that they changed the name every year or something like this....that's way i proposed the merging....but, again if we stick with posting in only one thread, the way it was meant, with stats and everything, i think everything will be fine😉

Can u share ur stat please ....

wow your stats are amazing. BTW, quick question..is your part one score in new format or old?
Also, I saw your dilemma between USC and UCLA. I would go for UCLA if choice.

Happy Thanksgiving

How many days/week or hours/week did you work as an observer? I am starting too but wanted to take my part 2...

When I started I used to go 8 hrs a day for 5 days.Later when my exams came nearer I went 8hrs/day for 3 days in a week.Actually because my husband used to drop me in the morning and pick me up after his work I had to stay there for the entire day.The plus point about it was the dentists spent time with me when they were free and over time I even got to do basic dental assistant work.

congratulation dds, what do you mean by fellowship program at uic

It is a 1 year certificate program. It is similar to perceptorship at UCLA. Let me also say that this is not accredited by ADA. But yes it gives you a lot of exposure and experience as to how dentistry is practised in US.
