Acceptances: Class of 2012

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi tmbrwlfm, I hope you get an offer from CSU! This was my first time applying and I am OOS. I was offered a position in the MSPH/DVM class of 2013, so I'm not sure if the reviewal process differed at all for that particular program. Also, I didn't think I had a shot at getting in there b/c my GPA isn't exceptional. You never know what they are looking for! Best of luck!!

Congratulations to you as well! I think applicants for the DVM program (no joint program) have to wait until mid January to start hearing any decisions. I'm In-state, and I understand that selected in-staters get interviewed. The interview dates given were February 6 - 8 (approx). It won't be much longer, though I am envious 🙂D) of everyone who has gotten in already. 🙂 Some days I think I have a shot and most days I think I don't. As you mentioned, one doesn't really know what they are looking for, so I guess all I can say is that I'm not out for the count yet ... ha. Best of luck to you with your MPH/DVM! I'm excited for you.

Holy S$%t is right! That's awesome, congratulations to both of you!!

I'm hyperventilating and can barely see straight.

Be forewarned, everyone - last year, a link to the pin meant rejection. THis year, ALL decisions are online! So don't expect a phone call -just check your email! And the subject is just "Decision" - it gives you no info until you enter the pin on your tracking page.

way to go hoo-dog. big hugs to you (and everyone at meadowland too)

Congrats! I was rootin for you hoodle!!!

Wow, looks like today is acceptance day! At least for Cornell. That's really awesome. Congrats everyone! 🙂

Is acceptance day at Cornell usually the same as rejection day? I haven't heard either way yet (not expecting to be accepted, but hope springs eternal), and I figure if acceptances have already gone out, the rejections can't be far behind 🙁.

Yikes, decision online for Cornell and I have no idea what my pin number is! Help! (and does this mean rejection)?

Ahh...haven't gotten the email, just saw on my tracking page. As if I wasn't a mess enough before...

Anyways, many congratulations to you! I am thrilled for you!

Same here.
And congrats, all.

Edit: Nevermind. Just got it. Rejection.

Congratulations to all who have gotten accepted!

I'm sorry msmrtrthnyllb! Good luck at your other schools!

I imagine that this list probably doesn't move much 🙁.

Of course no person can rightfully complain when they have at least one acceptance in hand 😀. Good luck to everyone else 😀.

The alternate list moved last year (I was an alternate). It actually cycled through three people on SDN at the very least. Just a heads up though they only give you 48 hours to decide also go to the info session thing at the end of January it was helpful. I ended up deciding I wasn't sure I could do the curriculum at Cornell and came to Tufts instead (so far I am very happy so it was a good decision for me) but it was a very difficult decision. I had thought that if they called I would go but when it came down to it I just wasn't sure I could/wanted to. Good luck!

Yup. I just got my Cornell rejection...but congrats too all you who got in--that's really incredible!!

I wrote this in the keeping each other updated thread, but I'll repeat it here since it seems to be the place. I got put on the alt list at Cornell too. It didn't say what number on the list though. Hope I'm near the top.

Angelo,

Did you know your position on the list last year? I called up there, but obviously they are very busy today. Were you out of state? I know that, in general, out of state lists move more than in-state. Just curious.

I was out of state (I'm from MA). They seem to have improved the system last year I didn't hear anything until close to the end of january (no e-mail) and then got the alternate package in the mail which confused me since I knew they were e-mailing decisions/calling. When I called to talk to them they said they couldn't tell me what number on the list I was--I tried! I ended up getting a call around April 20th (a few days after deposits were due) after a few weeks of panicking everytime the phone rang! If you want to see my online panicking on SDN look up the Advice! thread from last year.

well, got rejected from cornell as well. kind of expected that, so not surprising although disappointing

I've been a lurker here for the past few months, peeking in every so often to tease myself with the idea that I might ever get into vet school (with great GREs, but a GPA of 3.3, science/core GPA 3.0... it wasn't looking too promising).

My lurking has ended, as I got my acceptance for Cornell in my email today. Eeek!!! :hardy: Congrats to all the others who have good news on their tracking pages today, & maybe I'll meet some of you at the info sessions.

So here's the list again...

Yes! Congratulations! That does give me hope when I apply next year. BlueCheeseToo: Do you mind my asking how much experience you had?

Yup, gotta stand up for the borderline-competitive GPA crowd. To be more specific - 3.38 cumulative, 3.0 science, 3.5 for last 45 credit hours. GREs were a 1430. I did have a ridiculous amount of hours with a wildlife rehab center (volunteer & staff for a total of six years), and a year and a half of volunteering with a small animal vet. I had two years of research experience, but that was in high school, so I'm not sure how much weight it carried. I had some really great letters of recommendation & a solid background in community service in general. I was a "traditional" student throughout, at a state school., & took five years to graduate to boot.

So... you never know. 😎

Wow, congratulations to Hoodle, Banditalfi & everyone else - that's fantastic!

YES! Congrats to everyone getting accepted today! So exciting! Woo hoo!

And good for you BlueCheeseToo, my fellow mediocre GPA-successful applicant you! 😀

Gahhh...I'm surprised at how much you and I are alike. We both did two years of research in high school, I actually worked with small animal vets/hospitals for a few summers, a good amount of non-animal related community service, and two years (but a LOT of hours, plus writing a grant for them) at a cat shelter in the city, plus a tiny bit of large animal experience. Even our GRE scores are similar--I got a 1440. I did have a higher cum GPA (3.75), and it was lots of bio and honors classes. And I got rejected outright. I want to be happy for all of you who got in, but right now, I'm just waiting for their office to open tomorrow morning so I can make an appointment to see what I'm missing.

But even so, CONGRATS!!!!!

Cornell is my state school, that may have been what pushed me over the edge given how similar our backgrounds are. Here's the breakdown of hours...

Wildlife rehab - 3000
Veterinary experience - 375
Research (SEANET) - 75
Large animal - 30

Thanks for the stats. It's my in-state too; that's why I'm so...disappointed. I figured it's my best shot.

Aww, well good for you if you go ahead and meet with them to find out what their decision was based on. Think of it this way, if you apply to them next year, you know you've got to be so close, right??

There was one other thing that my application may have hinged on... I've been heavily involved in the local fire department as an EMT, with about 800 hours a year for two years. In my essays (and one letter of recommendation), this was presented as something that taught me to work with humans (hmm, do they count as large animals?) in difficult situations and in a teaching & training capacity, as well as being a physically and mentally demanding job.

I'm sure there's plenty of different (significant) stuff in our apps that would set us apart, and that whatever it was, you certainly deserve to get into Cornell. It just sucks that I was pretty much told not to worry, what with my stats, and then I got outright rejected. I need to stop torturing myself until I can talk to someone at the office about my application.

If your stats are similar I *think* you'll get in somewhere (if you applied wisely), especially if you are good at interviews. Some people get in everywhere but their state school - you never know exactly what they are looking for.

Congratulations to Hoodle, Banditalfie and all!!!!

Wow! Congrats researchvet on Cornell and CSU!! Very difficult to get into those! 👍 🙂

If it's not too forward of me, can I ask what your stats are? CSU is so hard to get in as OOS, I'm just curious what they do accept : )

YAHHHH Research Vet!! Hopefully I will see you there in the fall if you choose there over Cornell!
