Hello all,
I was accepted to my top choice dental school yesterday! I am currently in a basic medical science masters program. When applying in July, I included in my AADSAS the courses i was planning on taking in the "in progress/intended" courses section. I am taking those courses and will successfully complete them. I asked a member of admissions to clarify whether i would need to continue taking classes in the winter, she responded with this: "All acceptances are conditional upon satisfactory academic performance, for anyone who is still taking classes at the time of application. It is not recommended that you drop out of your master's program. You were selected, partially based on the classes you have in the in progress section of your application. If accepted students do not perform well in their planned/intended coursework, we can rescind the offer. Final transcripts will be due to us in Summer 2021 and we expect to see your coursework in the master's program. I can't stop you from dropping out of your master's program, but I must caution you that this may jeopardize your acceptance to our dental school. Please give this careful thought." I responded with how I did not include winter courses in my "intended" course work on aadsas, she then responded bluntly with "you should complete the program". I am not cutting corners here and I have big plans and need time off before dental school. Any advice on how i should go about this?

I was in your exact same shoes a few years ago. Got accepted based off of me finishing my masters. So I finished the masters. And now Im a few months away from my 4th year in dental school.

Finish the masters.

thank u for ur responses, in order to complete my masters i would have to take winter, spring and summer courses. basically no time to mentally prepare for dental school. i do want some time off before i start

you'll have lots of time off if you don't do what they say and they rescind your acceptance...

A member of the adcom specifically told you to finish the program..

You would jeopardize your acceptance to your top choice for a few months of break, after all you went through to get there? Why..?

Finish the program.

I got off a waitlist the first week back in January and I told the school I’d already dropped courses that were required for that school and they said don’t worry about it...you’d be surprised how much they don’t care lol

It can’t get any clearer than “you should complete the program”.

Their first response couldn’t have been more clear. Seriously. Why’d you keep poking the bear?
