@ToxMan1: can you PM me too with any details you get? Are you considering Drexel? I also got word from them and am currently considering them 😀

Sure thing. I'll keep ya posted. Yes, I am considering them. Not sure how serious. But, I am considering. After all, I applied, right?

I received my official acceptance to Brown today! 😀😀 I was also awarded a merit scholarship! Anyone else waiting to hear, I know my application was in the first round to be reviewed. I spoke with the school on Monday and was given the good news, but the apps had not yet gone to the graduate school. I was told everyone should be hearing in the next few weeks!

Good luck to everyone!

Accepted: Brown
Rejected: None
Waiting: GW, UC-Denver, and Drexel
*Brown was my first choice and only choice for a while, so unless one of the others offers serious money, I will be attending Brown.

Hey all. Just found this forum and thought I would add my own info. I am a recent college graduate applying for joint degrees at schools of public health and schools of nursing. I'm interested in socio-behavioral sciences, specifically health literacy and health promotion.

Undergrad GPA: 3.9, anthropology at University of Chicago
GRE: V:660, Q:790, W:6.0

Since graduating, I've been in a post-bac pre-nursing program taking prereqs for my nursing schools and working as a standardized test tutor and as the director of tutoring at a Chicago Public School.

My public health experience is all volunteer and a lot of it was during undergrad:

Project HEALTH case management intern at Friend Family Health Center (6 months)
Education Coordinator and mentor for STRIVE, a healthy literacy and mentorship program for teens with sickle cell disease run out of La Rabida Children's Hospital (2 yrs)
Received Metcalf Fellowship in Health Education for summer 2008
3 months volunteering in Tanzania at local nursery school and local AIDS orphanage
Current child life services volunteer in hem/onc department at Children's Memorial Hospital

Applied to: Columbia, Yale, JHU

Submitted SOPHAS application on December 15, received confirmation from Yale on January 14.

Still waiting to hear back from all schools.

You're likely to get into everywhere. Best of luck!

HuxMonster, you have incredible experience! I think you will have a seat with your name plated in it at whatever school you get into.

All these last minute posters are making me feel like I've overestimated my chances. I just want my essays back now =(

On the other hand, no news is still good news. Chugging along!

Brown has usually been good with financial aid for the MPH Program.

I just got into UW (MS in Epi)! Found out just now through an email, had an excitement attack, remembered how to breathe normally, and then remembered to update here.

I'm waiting to hear from Emory as Emory and UW are my top choices.

Acceptances: UPitt, UW (!!!)
Rejections: Yale
Waiting: UNC, JHU, Boston, Harvard, UCLA, Berkeley, Emory

Just got into Yale!!! MPH EMD!!! I did not think that was going to happen! Wow. Crazy. I got the application received email on Dec. 21st, and got the letter today. It was mailed the 31st, and I live 2 hrs away from New Haven.

Did you get any other sort of confirmation email between the 21st of December and today? Like a 'Application is complete' email? Yale sent me a 'application received' email on January 19th and I'm wondering if there's a follow-up email after that but before the actual news.

congrats zjwah! thanks for answering my question yesterday (& phstudent2011)...seems like the Health Policy concentration may be the next to go out after epi? fingers crossed!

hi congrats on your uw and upitt!
im considering applying to upitt i really like their epidemiology research but of course, the finances are an issue -- would you mind telling me if theyre awarding you a merit scholarship or if you've heard anything about their research assistantships and scholarships? thanks, i'd really appreciate it!

Thanks! I didn't get any funding from UPitt and in the second email they sent me (the first just told me I had been accepted and that was it) it specifically said that the Dept of Epi doesn't provide funding through research assistantships to Master's students, but to check on the GSPH website for funding info and other options. I really haven't looked much more into it as UPitt wasn't my top choice (sorry!).

Hey Zjwah - congrats on UW! Do you have a preference between UW or Emory? Are you thinking of going to the visit day in march?

Hey PeriEpi2011-

I believe I'm leaning toward UW. But it depends upon the day (and whether or not I get into Emory 😛). Any of you out there deciding between Emory or UW? And do you mind telling me your choice and why? I could use some advice! I'm from GA (but love Seattle), so people here are generally biased towards Emory.

I do plan on going to the visit days in March if I can get off from work. This shouldn't be a problem, but I'll find out later today when I go in.

Congrats on you acceptance to UW too! Are you planning on attending the visit days as well?

Thanks and congratulations to you too! I think it is my first choice out of the schools I got into so far. I'm still waiting on UCLA. But even though I had clear favorites when I wrote my statements, I'm a little nervous about sticking to those instincts. Guess I will have to visit. Is it your first choice?

Thanks! Sounds like we are in the same boat! So far, it is my first choice out of the schools I have gotten into. I am waiting to hear back from two more schools, but am pretty sure I will be there next year for the EMD program. I plan to visit, though, to see what the campus/professors are like on their admitted students day.

on grad cafe, two people posted they were accepted to PhD programs at Mailman...i wonder if MPH results will come in soon???

Hey Anthro, are you going to the visiting students day for Brown on March 4?

Also, I was accepted to Drexel today.

Cheers and good luck to everyone!

So far, UW is my only acceptance. Luckily, I think it's also my first choice! I had great meetings with UW profs in the application process, and the Epi program with maternal child health specialty is really perfect for me!
I need to see what the funding possibilities are, of course.

Any idea how many students they admnit per year?

I will wait to hear from JHU and Harvard to decide for sure, but I'm pretty sure UW is the best fit for me!
I'm curious why you may consider emory over UW?

Yes, I'm going to go to the visit day. I live in vancouver, so it's a quick and easy trip. After messaging each other on gradcafe then here over the past several months, it would be great to meet you!

Got into Yale Chronic Disease Epidemiology today!! Small letter came snail mail today. Yale notified me of complete application on 1/7/11

Still waiting to hear back from Columbia. Really want to be in NYC

Accepted: Yale, Michigan, Tulane, Drexel
Waiting: Columbia, Emory

Congrats to everyone on acceptances so far. Keep it up.

Hey Congrats! Would you mind telling us if you are on the east, west coast, or midwest, etc? My application was complete for CDE on the 1/5/11 and I am waiting very anxiously!!

I'm not sure how many students UW admits each year. I think I've seen the stat somewhere, but I just don't remember it. Yes, funding is going to be interesting.

Right now I am leaning toward UW, but I just found out I got into Emory's MSPH in Epi as well. I have to serious thinking to do, but Emory's ties to the CDC are the main thing that attract me to it. I don't know, however, if that's enough for me to decide to go there though. I'm also from and currently living in the Atlanta-area, so I wouldn't have to deal with moving. Then again I love Seattle and am not that fond of Atlanta...we'll see!

It would great to meet with you. I haven't gotten the all clear from work for the visit days in early March, but I should know by early next week whether or not I can attend (fingers crossed).

That's great! Congrats on acceptances to both of your top choices!

I also just got accepted to Emory's MSPH program in epi! Looks like the epi department is just starting to send their decisions!

I am really happy about this, but am still leaning heavily towards UW...

Great! let me know if you are able to come and we could grab a coffee or something!

Got into Ohio State! 🙂 So glad I got that first acceptance out of the way! Less than a week turnaround too!

Does anyone know if UIC sends out emails after your application is complete?

So logged into Emory's OPUS and saw some items on my to do list and went, "Que???" And saw that they were the Enrollment Decision Form and the Enrollment Deposit. I almost choked on my tongue! I got into Emory for Global Health!!!!!!!!! WOOO!!!!!! SO EXCITED!!!

Accepted: Emory (GH), Pittsburgh (BCHS)

Waiting: UNC, BU

Congrats ReproHlthPlz (choose Emory)! What was your concentration for Global (choose Emory) Health? I'll be there in the fall (you should go there too) for GH - Infectious Disease! Good luck with your decision (but you should choose Emory)!

Hahahaha, I don't think I need subliminal messaging to convince me to pick Emory... unless some other school throws a wad of serious cash at me. My concentration is Reproductive Health/Population Studies. Congrats on your decision!

My roommate is in the Reproductive Health/Population Studies concentration and she really likes it. Sidenote, it's an extremely difficult concentration to get into-congratulations!

And congrats to the others who were also accepted to Emory (and other schools) today!

Does anyone know if UIC sends out emails after your application is complete?

I got an e-mail when my application was received, then again when I was missing an application fee. I would guess that if you haven't received anything after when your application was received then your application is probably complete 🙂

I know that there has been a lot of frustration with BU, but I was there today and I was told that decisions are going out next week, but take that with a grain of salt! They also said that merit scholarships will go out in the same e-mail.

ReproHlthPlz,

When did Emory receive your application? It's only been a couple of weeks for me, so I know I still have a bit of waiting. The waiting is killing me.

Hey EBP,

For what it's worth, my Emory app was forwarded to the dept on Jan 18th and I heard back today (via Opus, no email or letter yet). I submitted SOPHAS on Dec 23rd, and it was mailed on Dec 29th. So, they seem to be moving rather quickly. That may be department specific though, and I'm not sure if you're in Epi or another dept. Good luck!!

Thanks PeriEpi2011. I applied to the Global Health Dept for Repro Health, and I got the e-mail that my application was forwarded to the department on 1/24/11. I'm nervous because I know it's very competitive, but I have a friend in the program who really likes it.

Hey guys,

I've been obsessively checking this thread for weeks now and I think it's time I share my stats. I'm a Canadian student coming from undergrad major in molecular bio, but applying to health promotion/education streams, so I really had no idea what my chances were. I ended up applying to a LOT of places, and it's been one hell of an emotional ride watching acceptances/rejections flying in.

GRE: 600V, 710Q, 5.0AWA (I wrote it twice lol. The 1st time I bombed verbal.)
GPA: 3.33 cumulative, 3.68 for last two years
Experiences:
-Molecular bio summer research on cancer cell signalling (summer studentship award)
-2 years writing for Dpt of Student Life blog at my school to promote student well-being
-10 months volunteering at Hospital for Sick Children emergency department, for clinical research and a nation-wide public health surveillance program
-summer clinical research position at Canada's largest multi-organ transplant program; data entry; developed/sent to publish patient education brochure
-Misc. EC's: residence council, peer mentoring, president of women's rights club, editorial board exec for undergrad science journal, etc
-Currently working part-time for my school's Institute for Life Course and Aging

SOPHAS verification: Dec 8th

Applied: Harvard, UNC-Chapel Hill, UM, Columbia, Emory, UCLA, Minnesota, UPitt, BU, Yale, USC, Drexel

Accepted: UM-HBHE, Emory-BSHE, UPitt-BCHS, Drexel
Rejected: UNC-Chapel Hill, UCLA, Minnesota
Waiting on: the rest!

I also applied to 4 Canadian schools: UofT, UBC, Simon Fraser and UofA

I found out I was accepted today as well (though OPUS). It was 4 weeks exactly from the time I got the "your application has been sent to the dept for review" email (received on 1/07). SOPHAS application was mailed on 12/15. I applied to the MSPH in Epi.
