Accepted, Fall 2011!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats to all those in at Columbia.

For those that have not heard from Colombia (me included) should know that Columbia just sent out their first batch of admissions, they will keep sending it out in about 3 batches till everyone is notified. Not getting a any notification does not mean that you are not in.

1st week of March is the final batch that will be out.

SOURCE: Mailman admission office.

Hey Awk. I think that these scholarships are based on the scholarship addendum that you could include with your essay, so not everyone will get a page 2. However, there is a whole list of other scholarships on the Mailman website that we can still be considered for once we submit the Mailmain financial aid forms (this year's aren't available yet, but should be soon, I think).

Check it out: http://www.mailman.columbia.edu/pro...nding-options/scholarships-fellowships-grants

Ahh, I see. Thanks! I thought I didn't get any financial aid, which would really suck, haha.

Got into Yale for Epi of Microbial Diseases today!

Listed as complete January 4th and letter was postmarked February 7th.

Epi2013 and the others waiting to hear from Columbia. Not hearing isn't necessarily bad. I got my notification today, and it was a rejection. 🙁 I'm sure they're just sending out the notifications as they can. Good luck!

Aww, I'm sorry to hear that! Hopefully, this will only be followed by good news!

I second that! I'm sure you'll have good news soon. For all my whining, I'm glad that I've already gotten yeses from 2 schools. 🙂

Thanks Swaffles and Epi2013, yeah I could use good news. Two responses in two days and both were rejections. 4 more to go...

Hi all,

Congrats to all those whom have heard from schools in the past few days! I heard from GW Monday. I was accepted (yay!).

Accepted: Brown, GW, Drexel
Waiting: UC-Denver
Rejected: None

To chime in on the class size chatter, I am torn on a smaller class. I did a post-bac with a very small class of uber competitive students. It was not at all enjoyable. However, my MS class was also very small, but super fun. We worked together and supported one another, though I think privately we all competed. This puts me at a crossroads. I am going to accept Brown (unless someone else gives me lots of money and declares me queen of the universe), but think the small class can be a gamble. However, smaller classes usually offer more faculty support and strong, personal recommendations. Who knows!

Good luck to everyone!

Congrats! Man, if I was declared Queen of the Universe, I'd be like "screw this MPH, off to JUPITER!"

(just kidding, graduate schools)

I was also accepted for Health Services.

Applied on Sophas November 31st. Application received by department on Jan 6th. Got an acceptance phone call on Jan 25th from a professor and official acceptance decision on the website yesterday.

YAY CONGRATS ON YOUR ACCEPTANCE!!!! 😀

When you mean by the acceptance decision on the website, did you mean the SOPHAS page? (because I went on the graduate application website and could not find a status location.. hrmm

Thank you!

I also got into Columbia today (MPH Epi). Yale and GW have been my favorites, but now I don't know. I guess I need to visit these places because I have no idea what I'm going to pick. Maybe I will start a thread where everyone can post there criteria for picking schools.

Mine was complete on 12/1 and mailed a week or so after. Also mine always said application incomplete and I never called for them to change it.

Accepted: (all MPH Epi) GW, Tulane, Emory, Yale (EMD), Columbia
Waiting: UPitt, BU, SDSU, and UCLA(!) and Berkeley(!)

Also, congratulations everyone!!

I got the Merit Scholarship, too! Comlumbia sent me an email to notify me that a decision was reached. So I logged in and checked again! This time there are two pages~

Has anyone heard from UW's Public Health Genetics program yet? My application has been complete for a while now, and I'm wondering if anyone else has any good news.

I'm also on the edge of my seat with Columbia.

Stats:
GRE - V:620, Q:740, AW:5
GPA - 3.4 (or thereabouts, I have a few different numbers but they're all around there)
BS in Genetics/Biology from top 10 public school
2 years work experience in basic science research

Waiting for Columbia, MPH Epi (11/30), Harvard, SM Epi (mailed 01/05), UW, MPH PHG (mailed 01/05), Emory MPH Glepi (mailed 01/12), BU MPH Epi (mailed 01/25), JH MHS Epi (01/24).

Accepted to Tulane, MPH Epi, submitted 01/12, acceptance 01/29.

The anticipation is killing me!

You applied to all of the schools i applied to. and our starts are very similar. (3.45, 600ish, 750ish) and we applied to many of the same depts. epi. (UW, HSPH, BU, and EMORY) around the same time that did.

Congrats to those who also got offers from Columbia!! For those merit scholarships you guys mentioned--do you remember if you filled out that 250 word section for consideration of scholarships in your application? I have no financial support thus far and I was wondering if there's still a chance that I could be considered for any awards in the near future. The thing is, I am international, so I don't know what's going to happen...

I'm an international too so international students are eligible. I filled out the 250 word section when I applied. You should email the admission office to see if there's a second chance.

Hey folks,

I've been accepted to Yale, Emory, Michigan, and Minnesota and rejected by UWashington. All are for Epi (Yale is EMD, Global Health Conc., Emory is GLEPI, Michigan is International Health Epi).

I'm down to Emory and Yale. I guess it will really come down to the financial aid/scholarship package, but does anyone think Yale has a better program than Emory? Seems pretty hard to beat CDC right on campus, the Carter Center nearby, and the Rollins name.

Opinions welcome.

Thanks mandy!!! I'm going to try salvage the situation if I can...

I read the whole thread, looking for news on Columbia, and I found out Columbia news was all on the last couple pages. whew~

I just got my acceptance letter to Columbia earlier this morning via email (2/9) for Biostatistics.
I have been rejected from Emory's Biostatistics program, but I received an email that the application has been passed on to the Global Health program. So, I'm waiting for that.

Undergrad: Health Promotion Disease Prevention Studies at USC
GPA: ~3.7
GRE: 670V; 770Q; 4.5W
Submitted applications on 12/1 for every school.
Accepted to: Columbia
Waiting on: Emory, Yale, BU, UCLA, UC Berkeley

Columbia was my first choice, but I'm still waiting on others to decide. 🙂

I applied UCLA, MS, Epi in early Nov and untill now no news. Maybe I'm out. 🙁

epiepi, I'm in the same boat with you... But it seems that there are not many people accepted to UCLA on this board. Probably they're just lurking...

Congratulations on all your acceptances! If you don't mind me asking, what program did you apply to at Minnesota, and how long did it take to hear back?

Hi Everyone!

Congrats on all of the acceptances! I have been reading this board for a while now and figured that I would share my stats as well. I am applying straight out of Undergrad to Health Management and Policy Grad School Programs.

Undergrad: Community Health
GPA: 3.16 (Last 2 years 3.76)
GRE: 550V, 530Q, 5W
SOPHAS Submitted 1/11

Accepted: Emory, Tulane
Waiting: Minnesota (Interview in a few weeks), UPitt, UWash, and UIC

Good Luck Everyone!

Has anyone bugged BU in the last couple of days?

I'm sure they're working on it - especially after the calls everyone has made last week, hah. Considering that all the acceptances will be coming these next two to three weeks, BU should be sending out acceptances in that time frame as well.

Just got my acceptance to UPitt IDM yesterday! It was my first choice, so I'll be going unless something crazy happens. It was between Pitt and UT since I would get in-state tuition at UT, but I like Pitt's program so much better. So excited! 🙂

Congratulations on all your acceptances! If you don't mind me asking, what program did you apply to at Minnesota, and how long did it take to hear back?

Betheltim,

Thanks! At Minnesota, I applied to the general Epidemiology Major track and my SOPHAS application was mailed 11/23/2010. I was accepted to Minnesota on 12/16/2010.

I've been checking these postings daily, so I am going to chime in now. Here are my stats:

GRE: 560V/730Q/5.0 AWA
Undergrad: BS in Genetics, Cell Biology from U of Minnesota
4 years full-time cancer research
2 months spent volunteering in Costa Rica
Leader of 2 undergrad clubs
Member of Minnesota Medical Reserve and volunteer for American Refugee Committee

Applied:
Minnesota (MPH in Enviro Infectious Disease)
Emory (Infectious Disease)

Minnesota receipt of application on 1/3 (sophas mailed 12/2)
Emory receipt of application on 1/21 (submitted 1/10)

Accepted: none
Rejected:none
Waiting: Both

I chose only to apply to 2 schools for no specific reason. I would like to go to Minnesota since I live in MSP and they have a great Enviro programs.
Emory would be amazing for all of the academic and experience opportunities.
I guess I put all my eggs in 2 baskets...

Anyone apply to either of these programs and/or hear any decisions?!? I am getting extremely antsy....
Thanks everyone!

Does anyone know if deposit deadlines are flexible? I'm worried that I won't hear back from some of my programs before the Columbia deadline (3/15) and $500 is a big chunk of change.

On my acceptance letter, it said that the $500 deposit is due on April 15th, not March 15th.

I called Columbia this morning, and the woman I talked to (she was very nice) said that they don't have a particular pattern to sending out the decisions but that they should all be sent out by the end of this month/beginning of next, and that they don't send them out daily (but possibly more frequently than weekly).

Has anybody else heard from them today?

mine says it's due 3/15...i wonder if people that were offered a merit-scholarship have early dates they need to decide by? I'm not sure if i can make a decision by 3/15...

I also am an undergrad at the U and applied to the Community Public Health program and Epidemiology on 12/27 (Early Decision) and was rejected on 1/18 (Happy first day of classes!)🙁. Oh well, peace out Alma Mater! I really wanted to stay here since I live in Wisconsin and I wanted to still be somewhat close to home, plus I already love the Minneapolis area. I applied to a whole bunch of schools to keep my options open, so we'll see!

Did you by any chance apply to the University of Wisconsin Madison MPH program?

Oh, that could definitely be the case! I didn't get a merit scholarship (kicking myself now for not filling out that 250 word section!).

Sorry to hear about that!!Was it a rejection from one or both programs? Hopefully you still have a shot at one of them!
Good luck with your other schools. I am sure you will find a new and great home at one of them!

Thank you for your optomistic words! I really don't know what I would do without this forum! It's truly a blessing and a curse at the same time seeing other people get in condisering the stats I have (low GPA and GRE scores). Congrats on your acceptances!

Well, I applied to the MPH PHAP and MS in HSRP&A at Minnesota. Minnesota's SPH website has my application as received on 12/23 for PHAP and no word as of yet (they are still waiting on my GRE for the HSRP&A, so they probably haven't even glanced at it yet).

I am ALSO getting very anxious... I don't want to have waited two months, haha...

Come to think of it, anyone else apply to Minnesota's MS in Health Services Research, Policy, and Administration?

When does Emory typically start giving out financial aid information?

When does Emory typically start giving out financial aid information?

When I asked I was told that they decide in early March who will be invited to interview for scholarships, they will interview those people in mid-march, interviewees will be "encouraged" to attend Visit Emory, and then decisions will be announced after Visit Emory (which is March 24-25). I was told that financial aid packets for students not interviewing for scholarships will be sent out sometime in mid-to-late March (this would include work study, subsidized and unsubsidized loan offers, etc). They also said that they don't start downloading FAFSA info until early/mid-February (so now I guess).

Good Luck!! I'll cross my fingers for both of us 🙂
