If you don't mind me asking, how long after your application was received and forwarded to the department for consideration at UCLA did you hear about your admission decision?

Thank you!

Submitted: December 1st

I guess no news from Columbia means I didn't get in since everyone that checked today seems to have gotten accepted. 🙁
Thanks to everyone for posting about some of the Columbia decisions being online! I checked this morning and am in to Epi!
Accepted: Yale (EMD), Columbia (Epi), BU (Epi), GWU (Epi), USydney (Tropical Medicine MPH)
Debating between Yale and Columbia.
Congrats to everyone who has received news and good luck to everyone waiting to hear back from some places. Wherever everyone ends up, I am excited to cross paths with you all in the scholastic and professional world!
When did you hear from BU? I thought they weren't sending decisions until late this week.
In at Columbia for health policy - 10k per year merit scholarship!!!
As of right now i am debating between Columbia and GW. Anyone want to weigh in? I know Columbia is higher ranked (as much as you can trust the rankings) but I want to work in policy and DC is the perfect place for it. I also got into the Chair's policy scholars program at GW where they assign a 1:1 mentor and put you at the top of the list for assistant-ships. Everyone I have spoken to at GW has also been so nice and so responsive. There are also couple of professors in the policy department that are researching exactly what I am interested in.
Columbia on the other hand, well I went there for undergrad so I know the bureaucratic mess that the school can be. But I also know how amazing and smart everyone there is. I took a couple of classes as an undergrad at the public health school and loved them (mind you it was 10+ years ago...) I also got a merit scholarship from Columbia and haven't heard anything about money from GW (the program I am in doesn't include any money.) I am slightly worried about being just a number at Columbia...
I guess I will wait to hear about money from GW and from the rest of the schools I applied to but was wondering if anyone was struggling with similar issues.
I also turned down Emory this morning - so hopefully someone on the wait list will get my spot!
Applied: Emory, BU, GWU, Columbia, NYU (their global health degree),Harvard, NYU Wagner
Accepted: Emory, GWU (health policy scholar), Columbia (10k per year merit award)
Hi mphhopeful12, congrats on your acceptance! Was the merit scholarship posted online as well? I saw the acceptance letter but did not see any scholarship info, I guess I didn't get.
anyway, congrats to all those who're accepted by Columbia today!![]()
Congratulations!
Did you apply for the MPH or MS for Epidemiology?
I got my decision earlier today and it didn't have info about a scholarship. But i checked again after getting the email from Mailman letting me know that my decision was available and saw a page 2. 10k merit scholarship!! 😱
Hmmmm, where is this second page? I got an email saying my decision was ready to view, but don't see a scholarship. 🙁
Today must be some sort of laundry day for a bunch of universities because I have received a few emails today about certain schools finally forwarding my applications to the admission committees. Whee!
Also, I called Columbia to see if there was perhaps something wrong with my application and the person who answered the call said that a decision was made on my application and that I should be hearing from them soon. I asked if she knew what the decision was and she said she didn't but she definitely sounded somber =\
Anyway, seems like they're just taking some time to send the actual emails out, so whoever didn't hear yet (like me) might in the next few days.
I also got in, to the reproductive and family health specialization within the population and family health department. I was also awarded the 10k merit scholarship. Now I just have to wait to see if I got into my dual degree program.
I also have an interview with UW global health tomorrow.
I'm a little nervous.
Congrats to everyone that heard from Columbia today!
Well, I was accepted to Columbia -- MPH in Sociomedical Sciences. I also received the merit scholaraship.
I guess it's between Brown and Columbia (only applied to two mph programs). Honestly, though, I'm not so sure about Columbia now. I didn't know they accept 62% of the students last year that applied, and that over 500 attended. Doesn't that seem like a lot?
I'm kind of lost -- is it better to attend a smaller program (Brown -- 10 to 20 students) or a larger program (516 students)?
Thanks in advance.
I've been wondering the same thing. Personally, I feel like a larger program might be better because big student body = more faculty = more research opportunities to get involved with. But at the same time I want the professors to care about students and I don't want to feel like just a "number." I'd love to hear feedback from current MPH students on this subject.

Not sure where youre planning on ending up after school but I currently work in NYC gov't and everyone and their mother went to columbia. Going to the school would be incredibly helpful for getting a job in NYC as I have learned the university is very much connected to the city gov, and the contacts that youll make as a student will go a longgggg way during the jobhunt...
Well, as a former MPH student, making a good decision should be based on what environment do you think you thrive better in. Do you think you would excel in a much larger program or a much smaller program? Do you prefer having a student-faculty ratio of say 1:1 or say 50:1 (these are random numbers)? Columbia and Brown are great schools. And at the end of the day, your experience is what you make of the available opportunities.
