Accepted, Fall 2011!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got the same email from Columbia while all the documents were sent.

Same thing as well. The email said if all the documents arrived, we do not have to take any action at this time. My application still says Incomplete though.

Was wondering if anyone got the problem solved by calling them. I called twice. They told me everything was fine and that I didn't have to do anything. Yet it still says incomplete.

Add me to the list of Yale rejects. I was rejected by email on Monday. :-(

Thanks for saying that MPH4Life. I'm sure there r some ppl on this forum that are really upset about the rejection.

Has anyone out there applied or heard from UC-Denver? I'm wondering what their decision timeline is.

I applied to UC-Denver MPH program for the Colorado State campus. I'm not sure what their decision timeline is either. Have you heard anything at all?

All I could find were two or three posts from the 2010 Acceptances thread. They received letters at the beginning of March. I don't want to have to wait that long! I submitted my app right before Christmas for MPH-Epi Anschutz Campus.

GRE 280 V 300 Q
GPA : 3.0
Accepted : UNC- Chapel Hill
Rejected- University of Washington

I am an international applicant I have 7 years experience working with as a public health physcian in disadvantaged populations in South America and Africa in rural communities. In this time I have investigated outbreaks of yellow fever, chagas and Dengue in Peru. Currently in charge of a health district. I was accepted by UNC- Chapel Hill. I have a G.P.A of 3.0, attended summer course at JHU and had distinctions. Honestly I am surprised I was accepted, but I am very religious person and I know God saw me through this one.

dang Yale is just vicious! You guys are all just too good for Yale and they're missing out!

true that! Yale's rejection means nothing now that I got into my #1 choice 😎

Hi, Congrats on your acceptance. UNC Chapel Hill is highly ranked and a good school. I have just heard people on this forum complain of how "dry" Chapel Hill is. What department did you apply for in University of Washington? I applied to the Global Health department and haven't heard from them. God is faithful and I wish you the best in your endavours!

Hey guys! I spoke with UC-Denver a few weeks ago. All decisions from them will be sent in March. If you have an extenuating circumstance you can send a letter with an explanation and they may render it sooner. I hope this helps!

Hi, when and how did you hear back ? (email or snail mail ?). I am also an International candidate, I applied to the MPH in epi program at UW and havent heard anything from them, so getting a bit concerned. What program did you apply to ?

Did anyone who has been rejected from Yale receive the reject via snail mail? I contacted the admissions department and I was told my decision has been mailed and I'm nervous....

You already got into Hopkins. Do not stress over YSPH. Is Harvard your first choice. You will be fine. Yale must be looking for certain types of students, not your typical successful public health candidate.

Thanks for the reassurance. All things being equal I'd probably go to Harvard, but I can't ignore financial assistance. I'm not willing to go into extreme debt for Harvard if I were accepted. I probably don't have to worry about that, though. What about you? What is your first choice?

I'm curious - did Hopkins offer you financial assistance outside of loans and such?

I haven't heard anything about what financial assistance, if any, I'd get from JHU. Did you get into JHU? Have you heard anything?

Oh, no no. I didn't hear back from any of my schools yet =( I think I misread your post. I thought you were saying that you'd go to Harvard but JHU offered you financial help. My bad, haha.

Congrats on JHU!

From what I can gather they reject via email and accept via snail mail, but of course can't be 100% sure. It's kind of lame they didn't just tell you when you called since a decision has already been made. Seems like you've got a good chance though.

Can I ask, when did Yale receive your application? It's approaching 5 weeks since I got their email, and it seems like there has been some activity coming out of the school recently. But maybe it just comes in waves like that.

Good Luck!

Funny you mention it's been 5 weeks for you because it's been about that long for me since I received notification of my complete status.

Good luck to you, too!

Undergrad GPA: 3.63 Health Psychology
GRE: 1260
Other: Research Assistant for 3 years, worked in a hospital in various capacities for the past 4 summers, presented research at a conference twice (going on three times!)
SOPHAS Mailed on: 12/08
JHU: Submitted in November but not listed as complete until 1/11, not sure what happened there
Columbia: Same as above, submitted in November but not listed as complete until recently
UNC: Completed in late November

Accepted: GW
Waiting on: JHU, UNC, Columbia, Harvard, UofM, Yale, BU, UIC, LLU and UMass

Just got my University of Michigan HBHE Acceptance! I received an e-mail, Wolverine Access doesn't show anything different yet. The ridiculous number of Yale rejections was making me nervous, but now I at least have two places to choose between!

My first choice is Columbia right now. I'm praying for that one, and hoping the odds are in my favor considering their acceptance rate is >60%. I applied to the Health Policy and Management Department. I'm now thinking that was a mistake seeing those departments appear to favor candidates with post-bacculaureate work experience.

GPA: 3.8 Anthropology/Spanish
GRE: 650V 720Q 4.0AW

No health-related work/research experience

Waiting: Boston (Global Health), George Washington (Global Health), Yale (Social & Behavioral Sciences)

Rejections: Emory (Global Health)

Acceptances: Ohio State (Health Policy and Management), Pittsburgh (Behavioral & Community Health), Emory (Behavioral Sciences & Health Education), Michigan (Health Behavior and Health Education)

I am most likely going to either Emory or Michigan.

First acceptance today via email for GWU's MPH program (Epi).I submitted the application on January 5th and received an application complete email on January 7th. Very quick response! 😀

anyone hear anything from BU yet? I think I've posted this before, but no one responded which probably means no one's heard anything, but I thought it was worth another try. I'm a little jealous of all the people who already know where they'll be going in the fall.

Congrats Butek! This goes to show that Public Health Schools consider ones application in its entirety - what is lacking in standardized test scores may be compensated for by work experience, a strong statement of purpose and LOR.
Your case is indeed a source of hope for many - He who does not throw a dice cannot throw six.

I asked them like 2 and a half weeks ago the status of my app and they said I would know very soon...if not the last week in January then FOR SURE by the first week in feb. Ugh, I guess the last week of January is out...

yeah and I hope they mean the first week of february is next week and not the one that ends on the 12th!! It's good to know I'm not the only one still waiting. The Yale rejection has gotten me really antsy about the remaining schools. Thanks for your help MPH4life!!! 🙂

Can anyone please tell me why almost everyone on this board applied to Emory, it appears to be the most popular MPH school is there a reason for this please let me know

I'm also going to guess the recent weather conditions delayed decisions. They just had a blizzard last night and a lot of schools were closed today. We'll all find out soon! 👍

I don't know what the answer is for everyone, but I do know that their connection to the CDC (which is located right next to campus) and other government and non-government public health agencies is a really attractive incentive for many applicants.

Emory sent me an awesome leather folder in the mail with a notepad and calculator. Nice🙂

Emory seems really top notch. Good choice for anyone, I think.

Hey everyone,

Just posting to help get the information out... since I know everybody is probably going crazy for lack of knowledge!
  • Got my acceptances to UMich and Yale so far; both acceptances and rejections for both of those schools have come out
  • For UMich, general procedure is that if your Wolverine Access status has the "A decision has been made and will be mailed to you" message, that's a rejection
  • Columbia's admissions has been incredibly messy this year, my school's Reference Letter Service has had several packets not make it and get sent back. They called Columbia to make sure they were sending it to the right address, and they were, but things are definitely very out of whack so don't worry too much if your application status is different from what you think it should be. Just keep following up - my reference letters are still listed as not having been received even though I know for a fact they were sent quite some time ago, and I spoke to Columbia about it.
.

Hope any of that info is helpful!

Haha, when I opened the packet I was really surprised (pleasantly), I'm glad that they made the acceptance packet info available electronically and spent the money on the leather folder! I'll certainly use it 🙂

HI,anyone here applied for MPH Environmental health in Emory?i got rejected to my first choice EPI and my second choice was Envir health.i just got a mail from Emory,

"The Environmental Health (EH) department has received your application for the EH MPH program for fall 2011. Your original personal statement was geared toward another program. Please submit an additional paragraph geared toward the EOH program outlining your experience and interest in the field. Please create a new document and send as an attachment; be sure to put your name, date, and “Environmental Health” on the top and email the statement directly to me.

Please submit this information within one week so we can review your file for next year's class.

Thank you for your application for the EH program. We look forward to hearing from you soon."

Did anybody get similar mail for their second choice? My 3rd choice is GLOBAL HEALTH.

wish me luck guys.i really wanna be in Emory for many reasons.

Hey MPH11,

If you don't mind, when did you hear from Yale and Michigan? And when did you have everything submitted? Thanks 🙂

Gladifimakeit were you also accepted at Emory in addition to JHU? I know you said you were going with JHU... I'm still waiting for Emory. They sent me an email acknowledging the receipt of my app and a link to the opus site on 23/11. While on the 20/01 I was informed that my application had been sent for review!! Almost a 2 month lapse. I really worried about why it took them so long to review my application. I hope I hear news from them soon!! Even though like you I've got into JHU,my first choice

Hi MPH11,

Congrats on the acceptances.

Please when did you submit your application to Yale? I submitted mine on the 7th of Nov and still haven't heard from them. What department did you apply to?
Do you mind sharing your stats?

I applied to EMD and ECD.

Thanks

Emory has one of the most cohesive career centres among public health colleges. Apart from being one of the best Universities for healthcare and having a really close relationship with CDC. Both of which give it an advantage over other colleges for a Public Health student, especially one inclined towards healthcare research.

Got into Yale!

Congratulations! so did it end up being snail mail or email? I realized it probably depends on department too.

Just wondering if any of the people who heard back from yale (accepted or rejected) applied to the MPH in EMD or CDE.

I applied to EMD and got rejected on 1/24, but I didn't apply to a second program.

Hi all,

Please does anyone have the admissions office phone numbers for Yale? Their website have not been going through for about a week now.
It seems everyone has heard from them.....Since I am oceans away from the school, I guess my own mail will take time to get here so I'll just like to call and know what's my admission's status since no email or mail have gotten to me.

Thanks

Hi! I just wanted to write in since I saw this question. I received an acceptance to the EMD MPH program at Yale right before the New Year. It came in a deceptively small envelope so I was rather surprised. I think I may have seen one other person on one of the boards accepted to CDE, but the people posting on this board abt Yale acceptances seem to mostly be from the HPM or SBS fields. Hope that helps some!

Hi! Good luck to you! I looked at my acceptance information and did not see a readily apparent phone number. However, online I found one for the admissions office. It is 203-785-2844.

Here is a link to contact info for people in the admissions/student services area at Yale! http://publichealth.yale.edu/about/contact/services.aspx

Good luck!!

It came via snail mail.

Also heard from Emory as well of an acceptance. That was via a phone call. Gonna party tonight 🙂

Congrats Annalise! What concentration(s) did you apply to?

did anyone hear back from UC Davis or UC Irvine at all? Also waiting to hear back from UPitt and no word yet.

Sorry if this has been covered on this thread-

But for Emory Epi people who have gotten acceptances/rejections- how long did it take to get your decision after you got the email stating your application had been sent to the dept for review?

I know the email said 3-6 weeks, I was just wondering if there was a general trend in length from the Epi Dept specifically (it's also been three weeks as of today for me, so I'm becoming even more obsessed with checking OPUS).

Thanks!
