I am a pre-osteo student that is interested in what your stats were if you were recently accepted to ANY DO school!

I noticed the similar threads are a bit outdated..so please, do tell.

Science GPA: 3.4
Non-Science GPA: 3.69
Cumulative GPA: 3.54

MCAT: 26O (7 PS/9 VR/10 BS) - I can't believe my physical sciences score was that bad; I got As in both semesters of physics, lol.

AACOMAS was verified/sent out in July. Applied to 14 DO schools. Got 6 interviews - LECOM-E, WVSOM, NYCOM, TOURO-NY, LMU-DCOM, and NSU-COM (withdrew from the rest in December). Went to 3 of those interviews, and got accepted to all 3 (LECOM-E, WVSOM, then NYCOM).

Hope that helps!

GPA- 3.86
Science GPA - 3.97
MCAT - 27Q (9,9,Q,9)
Applied at 6 D.O. Schools
Invited to interview at all 6 (Did not attend the Touro-CA interview)
Accepted at all 5 schools I interview at (Touro-NV, Des Moines, KCUMB, ATSU/Mesa, AZCOM)

Hope this helps!

cum GPA: 3.51
sci GPA: 3. 41
MCAT: 26R (7P, 8B, 11VR)

Verified in the end of July. Interviewed at Nova, AZCOM, UNECOM, Western and was accepted to those schools.

Cumulative GPA: 3.57
Science GPA: 3.50
MCAT: 30Q (11B, 10V, 9P)

I only really applied to MSUCOM (out of state) because I'm interested in research, and that's where I got in. AACOMAS wasn't verified until early October.

from the AACOMAS website, processing begins in May (most likely the end of May), so you'll probably be verified in early June.

as far as stats go... if i can make it into med school, you probably can too:
cGPA = 3.17
sGPA = 3.0
MCAT = 32R (11P, 10V, 11B)

Cumulative GPA: 3.40
Science GPA: 3.40
MCAT: 32O (14PS/5VR/13BS)

Interview Invite: (KCOM, PCOM-PA, LECOM, WVSOM, DMU, Touro-CA, AZCOM, ATSU-SOMA)

Accepted: PCOM-PA (Withdrew the rest to save money)

Congrats and thanks for sharing. I am now officially hopeful. If you dont mind me asking. Where did you get accepted?

-22 y/o male
-gpa (science and non science): 3.89
-MCAT: (8p/7v/10b) 25p
-Been to India, Bangladesh, Ukraine, Mexico on mission trips, most of them medical
-Shadowed a surgeon

-applied to 6, interviewed at 5, accepted 5/5. DMU blew my socks off.

Stats are only part of the picture 🙂 which I am sure that you know. But what has not been said is that new application year= new stats.

With the economy the way that it is this increases the number of applicants in droves.

Also on my interviews I was informed more than once that MCAT is going up for all Osteo schools as well as the number of applicants. GPA I was told by one recruiter stays the same basically.

So for gross generalization and just from looking at the above applicants who have gotten many acceptences- 27 MCAT and 3.5 GPA 🙂 for this year.
It will likely be higher next year.

Average means that you get in with scores below and above - so anything is possible.

In my experience average stats opens more doors than having anything way above or below but that is just anecdotal.
I have heard stories from more than one pre-med who applied MD that they were flat- out rejected from their safety schools as their stats were much higher than that schools average.

The protocol for admissions is specific to each school. More than anything, it seems, schools want to know if you will fit in and thrive in their environment with what they are offering.

Anyway I was an applicant this year and have been accepted- this is my experience.

I remember posting a Q similar to your Q last year and this is what I learned through this process. Also I wish you luck as I found this year more psychologically challenging than I expected. Waiting on judgment is not easy 🙂 especially when you need to pick up and transplant your life to a new area.

So now i am done🙂

Remember it is more though than just statistics- even though that is a good place for the admissions committees to start.

hehe oops! thanks for the correction 🙂

only got interviewed at 4 places: Western, Touro NY, NYMC, Touro NV - waitlisted at Western and Touro NV, accepted at Touro NY and (recently!) NYMC. hoping i don't have to go far from california, but i wouldn't mind either Touro NY or NYMC.

congrats on your acceptance....but I was under the impression that many schools have an MCAT cutoff @ 6 or 7 per MCAT section, or am I wrong?

29Q (10PS/10BS/9VR) and a 3.5.

Never heard from NYCOM or UMDNJ, didn't send in my secondary to OUCOM.

PCOM, LECOM, VCOM, DMU, and CCOM invited me for interviews. I interviewed at PCOM, LECOM, and VCOM. I got in to all three and cancelled DMU and CCOM.

congrats on your acceptance....but I was under the impression that many schools have an MCAT cutoff @ 6 or 7 per MCAT section, or am I wrong?

You are neither right nor wrong. I am sure some schools have an MCAT cutoff at 6 or 7 per section. However, I guess my record shows clearly that it ain't true for osteo ones, at least some of them. Everyone says this and that about MCAT cutoff @ 6 or 7, but many schools don't really post specifically about this. For instance, if you check out the PCOM admission requirement, it says

"Each applicant must sit for the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT), which is given multiple times each year. Prospective students are urged to take the test as early as possible and certainly not later than August of the year prior to matriculation.. The MCAT must be taken within three years of desired matriculation."

And under Criteria, it says,

"Grades and MCAT scores are important to us as they are some of the best predictors of success in medical school; however, we also look very carefully at extracurricular activities, community involvement, motivation to study medicine and letters of evaluation."

So getting a 5 in one part is not the end of the world. Just make sure you complete your AACOMAS application and your secondary applications as early as possible. I am actually the first group to be interviewed at PCOM (early October). All other interviews invite from D.O. schools also came before the end of 2008. However, you have to expect that the admission office will ask you to explain why you did so poorly on that particular section of the MCAT.

thank you for the clarification. I was a little worried about the VR of the MCAT because english isn't my first language, and I know I will face a huge challenge when I take the MCAT next year.

Sorry OP for driving the thread a little off topic.

I didn't do well on the verbal section of the MCAT.
In hindsight, if I had a semester or a year left before taking it, I would purchase a EK 101 verbal passages book and start working on a couple of passages each day and trying different strategies to find one that works for me. The key is repetition apparently and verbal skill is something that takes some time to build up, especially if its not your forte. I heard that at Columbia University. pre med advisors tell their incoming premed students to start reading articles from magazines such as the new yorker, economist, and new york times, reading not for content but the author's voice and purpose. start practicing early, it'll save you a lot of stress come exam time!

This has been discussed in other threads and I tend to agree that as the application to med school requires more thought than other professional/grad school requirements. We have to have a significant number of pre-reqs vs. law school where any degree is fine and just take the LSAT.

Just my .02 cents.

The first group interviewed 9/24... lol Maybe they tell everyone they are the first.

I totally understand your concern because English ain't my first language. I spent so much effort working to improve my score in the verbal section, but it just doesn't go anywhere for me (same with my other friend; he has similar stats as me and got accepted to DMU...Yes, another 5 in verbal). However, I clearly showed that understanding English is not a problem for me in other sections of the MCAT. Also, they can tell that I can speak fluently during my interview and communicating in English isn't a concern for me at all.

OH...lol...My defintion of first group is the first group of interviewees who were evaluated by the admission committee at their first meeting (mid october). I interviewed during the second week...in bacchus defintion...I am second group...lol:laugh:

Beckhunter- Yes I agree more pre-reqs = less of an increase ( this is what you are implying? correct?) but the economy has been getting worse for some time...long enough for some to finish a post-bac program.

Application # is on the increase be it to post-bac programs or Osteo. 🙂 or Allo.

Maybe not so much of a free for all as for Law school but still ...

You think not? Which threads are has this been discussed in?

3.96, 26P (9p/7P/10b), 29 y/o non-trad Comp Sci/Info Tech. I hate VR 😡

PCOM, AZCOM, NSUCOM, LECOM-E/Seton, LECOM-B, DMU.

You hate it so much that you took the physical section twice? 😀

3.2 cum and 3.0 science. (I had a bad year of science classes when I first started and it killed me. I also didn't have goals for a long time)

MCAT: 9/9/9/O (I was testing in the 37s, so I was a bit bummed about that. A person dies before I take the MCAT every time, so I thought it was best to not try again)

Tons and tons of ECs.

Interviewed: Bradenton, Touro-CA, NSUCOM, LMU-DCOM, KCOM, AZCOM, FIU, FSU and turned down PCOM-GA. Didn't hear from a ton of schools.

Waitlisted at a ton of places. Probably going to NSUCOM in Fall, but we'll see. Waiting it out for FSU and FIU.

2.9 Science, 3.2 Overall.

28P (11 verbal, 10 physical, 7 bio) although in a past mcat i got a 10 bio, 7 physical.

Applied in december. 3 interviews from january to march. Accepted at 2 so far (UMDNJ and LECOM-Erie). Waitin to hear from UNECOM. Probably gonna choose UMDNJ cause i got a 12k scholarship.

i give hope to those with bad GPAs! 🙂

sGPA: 2.79
cGPA: 2.97

MCAT: 29O (11VR, 9BS, 9PS)

Applied in December and I got one interview at Touro-NY and one acceptance don't ask me how I did it because I'm not even sure right now.😀

12k scholarship from UMDNJ? 😱

Yup 3k/year! I was surprised too. Believe me! I also did the masters program at BU but I havent graduated yet. I'm still waiting to hear from UNECOM... but the super low tuition after 1st year and scholarship are telling me forget about every other school!

10PS, 8V, 10B
3.6 cum GPA, 3.5 sci GPA

submitted secondaries to NOVA and NYCOM, accepted to both. Applied really early 😀

I saw a 15PS/9VR/15BS one time ... pretty weird too.

No it isn't. You must not have a big enough sample population with enough international science whizzes! 😛

Low verbal scores are nothing new imo. I would say weird scores would be like 12+BS/12+VR/6PS.

Students who usually have one bad score always seem to have the verbal low (imo).

Yeah, low VR with high sciences is very common, especially amongst physics/math/chemistry majors born outside of the US.
