I you accept an offer does that mean you wont get into any other schools? I know in law school if you accept from one school it is as if you are withdrawing your application from all other schools?

no but if you commit to a school you should stick with your decision...plus, you'd also lose your deposit if you don't 👎

I'm sure that Dental Schools are aware that students jump around a lot. For instance, let's say that you get accepted by school "A" and don't hear from anyone else for a while. You go ahead and send your deposit, and a few weeks later you hear from school "B", your top choice school. What do you do? I say most people would opt for sending a "oops, sorry" letter to school "A" and take a spot in school "B".

At least, this is the impression that I have of the process.

A deposit is simply a payment that reserves your seat at that dental school. You are not contractually obligated to attend that school. That is the purpose of a deposit. The school retains your deposit as a consolation fee in the event that you choose not to attend their school.

However, if you do get into your top choice, it is common etiquette that you withdraw your applications in a timely manner to allow the dental school to make their decisions. Also once you send in a deposit to a school, other schools do have access to this information now, and they may decide to withdraw your application from further consideration if they want in order to keep you from holding multiple acceptances for a long period of time.

really..that puts me in kind of a bind then cuz all my interviews are still in jan and feb, but the school that i got accepted to needs a deposit by jan. so i have to give them my deposit just in case i don't get in anywhere else. but then wouldn't that mean that all my interviews in feb are not worth going to?

Not if you really want to get into one of those schools. It's still possible, though less likely than if you interviewed there pre-Dec 1.

I am pretty sure that there is a date after which AADSAS releases the info of who has put down a deposit. It's somewhere between March 1 and May 1, I just can't remember. If you do a search on here, or look at AADSAS's site, you may find the answer to this.

But you shouldn't have to worry about it until at least then.

I'm in the same situation. I have acceptances but I'm still waiting to interview at UMichigan and UCSF has yet to call (my application has been complete and under review for what seems like forever). I plan to put deposits down do reserve positions until I have the chance to see Mich and UCSF because I'm REALLY interested in both. I know it's extra money but I UCSF has been near the top of my list for a VERY long time.

it's may 1st, so you can reserve a seat. but like a previous poster said, it's common courtesy (not a requirement) to inform the schools your withdrawing from asap, so that they may find other people to fill the class.

if a person gets an acceptance offer but doesn't turn in their deposit on time, do they permanently lose their spot at that school?..even if they send theri deposit late?

same here, i have an acceptance at nyu and several interviews i plan not to attend but still waiting for columbia / harvard my top choices 🙂
