If your school is not accredited by the time you graduate, you cannot sit for the NAPLEX, meaning you can't get your license. This means you can't practice as a pharmacist ANYWHERE in the US.

Hope this helps.

so if the school is in pre-candidate statis, like UH @ Hilo, then it's not a good idea to apply?

Did you see the link Gosondth posted above. If u took a look at it, u'll notice UH is on the list. As long as u have a school on that list, its students are eligible to take the NAPLEX.

You're right, but this is sort of confusing lol

I'm pretty sure that after the first class graduates with a certain mean score on the NAPLEX and meets certain other criteria, it is boosted up to full accreditation status.

I'm pretty sure in the case they don't become fully accredited, that you won't be able to practice. (You only get candidate status for a certain period of time)

If I'm wrong, could someone give me a link telling me what does happen? The link above just tells which schools are accredited.

If the school you're considering has a candidate accreditation status you will have the same rights and privileges, including sitting for the NAPLEX, as someone who graduated from a fully accredited program. Different states have their own eligibility requirements though. So, check the school's website and your state's board of pharmacy. The school's website will generally have an accreditation disclosure statement.

Here's an excerpt of what I found on Texas A&M Kingsville website:

...Graduates of a class designated as having Candidate status have the same rights and privileges of those graduates from a fully accredited program, generally including eligibility for licensure...It should be noted, however, that decisions concerning eligibility for licensure, by examination or reciprocity, reside with the respective state boards of pharmacy in accordance with their state statutes and administrative rules.

I'm sure the school you're considering has something similar to this...Hope this helps.🙂

Accreditation will only impact your right to take the board exams.

Once you pass the exam and get your license, the accreditation status of your alma mater has no bearing on your ability practice.

(At least that's the case in CA.)

That is the case for every state, as a fully accredited school is not guarantee accrediation forever.

deduce it...'man........word for word

candidate granted ---> sit for naplex --> pass naplex --> pass state law --> licensed pharmacist --> start working --> make some money --> pay back loans, etc

whatever happens after that....does not matter?
