I'm on the APPIC listserv (for internship applicants), and people were posting questions like, "does it matter if I use a heavy paper or light paper for my resume? Should I use staples or paper clips?" From afar it is like, 'Really?!!!'....but in the moment, it seems really serious.
So no worries, it sounds like you did the right thing.

Heh, thanks. I would be lying if I denied having a moment of extreme crossnesss when the fancy printer that spat out one of my supplemental applications did so with a staple already in place. I considered doing something about it or asking somone about staples, then I got hold of myself and decided that spending an hour or so photoshopping my answers onto the stupid form instead of writing or using a typewriter was enough insane behavior for one day, and made myself walk away. Will of steel l tell you. *looks brave and resolute*

Ahhh...thanks for that great laugh. My classmates and I are certain that we are all well along the way of a DSM dx of OCD after last year's application/interview process and now going through our first course in administering/scoring assessments.
