Just wondering if becoming an ACLS instructor carries any weight at all with fellowship applications, or if the time and effort would be better spent elsewhere?

Waste of time if you're only doing it to buff your CV. If you're truly interested, go for it. But you can spend your time in better ways if improving your app is the goal.
