I will try to review the mcq and go back to books to clear any doubts. Also read Odell e Oxford hand book. I have been reading the Dental decks and I found helpfull. I guess we don't have much time to walk around anymore, we just need to focus on the exam itself. 🙄
How about yourself?

I think the answer is 'canellous bone graft' as the cancellous/spongy bone has rich blood supply than that of the cortical/compact and so greater osteogenic potential.

hi dr. melbourne

it is good to be a part of this forum.

I'm intrested in the material for ADC prelim. I'm preparing for ADC part I and m taking it up in March '08.

I learnt for the previous post that you have already cleared you part I, if you could help me with MCQ's and short notes from the past ADC exams (are the MCQ's solved with reasoning. Are the appropriate answers provided for the Short Answer Questions (SAQ's).)

your help will be appriciated and I can help you out with some clinical material that I have with me, it is soft copy that I have.

Thanks & Kind Regards,
Mousse

according to me it should be the anterior cranial base..as u can can measure it from broadbent point..you need atleast one stable point to keep as reference so dat u can evaluate..the diff or study the cranio facial growth pattern..since the question is to evaluate growth..the ans acc to me should be ant cranial base..can look into reference to support this..

i would like to bring one point into notice..ostoegenic, osteogenetic are 2 different things..so make sure what has been asked in the exam..the answers could vary..the chapter in carranza has a very detailed explanation on this..so pls read it in detail..i think its a imp question..as in my sept exam..i found perion the most tuff..i had read c arranza but think that certain things needed more attention..like certain topics..on root recession..

hey chu..
i had faced similar problem wen i wanted to start reading it..i would like to tell u how i did it..dont take it as a question ans book..u gotta take every quest as a case study..n in the end of each study..u should try summarize for urself..that if a pt with similar conditon comes to u in ur clinic..what main clinical findings n differential diag would u take in consideration..so that in the end of the book..u would know dat if its a case of sweeling for ex.. what all main tests we need to get done..what would be ur immediate treatment, n what all different conditions this sweeling could be..u dont need to mug up all the charts they have given..u need to be quite an analyser while doing htis..n its quite easy n infformative book.u wont get that much time or space to write as much as they have written in the book..so u need to know only the main idea..n understandin very case is what that books aims to give u in the end..hope it helps..

Hi
yes you are right that I have cleared my preliminary last september.
For preliminary exam, you should study as much as you can but i can tell you a few recommended books which will increase your awarness about preperation for prelimniary exams.
1) oxford hand book of clinical dentistry
2) Clinical problem solving in dentistry by W. D. odell
3) comprehensive review of denitsrry by leious J. Boucher
4) question bank/1060 MCQs
5) Cowson for MCQs

I will much appreciate if you can send me the soft copy of clincial exam material on [email protected]
alternatively if you require 1060 MCQs , please advise as I have a soft copy.
With regards

I met three people .one attended otc and was complaining it was not worth the money she spent.
the other attended aider and said the pass rate after doing otc /aider is the same and the 3rd didn't go for any course.all three are practicing dentists in australia.
i think aider is good enough.what say the others?

E. Anterior cranial base

Is it D?

well the answer to this question is definetly E.
as we relate the maxilla and mandible with the cranial base to verify from a radiograph whether if the maxilla(SNA) or mandile(SNB) is prognathic or retrognathic
as we ALWAYS RELATE OUR READINGS WITH THE MOST STABLE AREA WHICH IS ANTERIOR CRANIAL BASE
i need the oet material plus prelimanary questions
if any one can send it to me please do help! THANKS

Hi
Odell is actually a book which is very useful for attempting preliminary SQAs. the actual title of the book is " clinical problem solving in dentistry" . the author is W. D. odell. it has got 56 clinical case studies.
This book is avaliable in melbourne uni book shop. i bought it for 101/- dollars and now i think it is 115/-. and nobody is going to give it to you for free because everybody needs it even for the clinical,so better buy it lol.
cheers

Hi
ofocurse OTc is the best but expansive. AIDER is also good but not like OTC as you don't work on actualy patients like otc.
I think you be able to clear the clincial exam even without these course if you have done or doing clinical practice. or alternitively if you are in australia, you should work as a dental assistant to have the oppertunity to observe the clinical dentistry here.
+ everybody knows his abilities, skills and confidance. what i mean is that may be you are confidant enough to go for the clinical without any courses.

I'm confused are the length of the 58 SAQ appropriate. Are there any more SAQ's with answers if so please mail them to me on [email protected].

Hi
Officially, you will get five minutes to read the role play cards before you strat the test. But you will be able to read it even just in 2 or 3 minutes. The exminer will always ask you if you are ready or not and if you are not , you can ask for a minute again. The envirnoment is very relaxing but you have to be confidant and just think that you are actually dealing with the patient in a clinic or hospital and you are in authority not the exminer. By acting like an actual doctor and not like an exam candidate, you will look more confident to the examiner.
Don't concentrate much on the medical aspect of the test e.g. correct history and diagnosis and treatment etc. as the exminer is not a dentist. Try to concentrate on fluency, accent, grammer and vocabulary. Keep talking.
Best of luck with your exam.
Cheers

3. Following ca(oh)2 pulpotomy would you expect dentin bridge to form
a- level some where below the amputation
b- exact level of amputation
c- at apical regin
d- half way betwen amputatin and apex

for this the answer is definetly a. the correct answer should be 'just bellow the level of amputation.
