Did I miss the Sept 11 thread? If not, I can't believe no one has started...

From AAMC:

"The AAMC is providing an additional test date for the MCAT in September. There will be approximately 2400 seats available on Sept. 11. This date was already planned as a back-up date in case inclement weather resulted in the cancellation of a regularly scheduled test date. These additional seats are distributed in locations across the country and are in every state except for Alaska, Hawaii, Rhode Island, West Virginia, and Wyoming,
Registration for these seats will open on Monday, August 13. [NOW!]
We will monitor demand very closely and are working with Prometric to open up even more reservations for MCAT examinees during September. We will update this Web page as soon as more information becomes available."

Right now, 9:45AM EST lots of folks are saying their locations are already full. It's possible I guess, but I'm having a hard time believing that -- as I haven't gotten the impression this Sept 11 is widely known about, even on SDN. Rather, I suspect some of these test centers, when they get hammered with seat requests, spit out a 'false negative' that there are no seats available. I say this because I've seen during other heavy traffic times it will say "No seats" yet, the next day or so later, there seem to be some available (as they remain available for a week or longer). Again, pure speculation on my part....as I find it hard to believe they've filled up THAT fast.

So, this thread would probably be a good place to post your registration experience(s).....

I checked 30 test centers and 1 came up with a seat but its 4 hours away.. kind of worries me because this may not be a high volume thing after all since 1/30 showed an opening.. maybe they are full???

Multiple test centers around my area are full (NC/SC region). I finally found a spot 2 hours away from where I live. I'm not sure exactly how many of the seats are actually taken b/c it seems hard to believe that everyone woke up as early as possible to reserve all of these seats at the same time. But ya never know...I'm going to keep checking to see if a test center closer to my house opens up....I'll keep ya posted

Keep in mind how many people are going for this date now. a TON of people who want to retake, some that haven't taken it and are freaking out and want more time too. its a big list

So the closest place I could find was 50 minutes away.... that means i'll have to be leaving my house at like 6:15am.... is that really bad? What is the farthest distance you're willing to drive to get to the test centre?

I understand there are a TON of people who want to re-take. I just don't believe that a TON of people know about this date -- yet. Did people receive emails from their advisors....if so, when? I found a few posts here last week which speculated there was going to be another date announced, but it didn't seem to be confirmed until this past weekend..?

a good deal of people probably didnt want to say anything about it. if you look at the posts of people who were up early today trying to get seats, they didnt mention a thing all weekend

geez, pretty cut throat around here! i figured that may be a reason, but something as significant as this -- people need to know. i'm surprised AAMC didn't drop an email announcement to anyone in the database!

Anyone else keep getting this message when trying to register?

I had the same problem. I called the MCAT help desk last week and they told me to remove my SSN and it should be fine! I hope this information helps! 🙂 Good luck on registration. Update us on your progress.

Some positive news would be if anyone came across a center that said NO AVAILABLE SEATS and letter checked the same center and a seat opened up.

has that happened to anyone yet for the sept 11 date?

hey,

Thanks for responding, I tried leaving the SSN blank and it keeps giving me the "Social Security must be properly formatted Social Security Number or Social Insurance Number" when I hit the "save and continue" button.

Am I supposed to enter some arbitrary number in there? I tried calling them but the phone is busy:scared:

I just left it blank, because they told me that the SSN is not necessary. You only need to include whatever has the red * asterisks. SSN information is not red asterisk, so don't include it. Check to make sure you include everything with the red asterisk but no SSN. If this doesn't work, then contact AAMC help desk. The lady told me this information and help me go pass the contacts page. I hope this helps. Good luck. Don't give up. I tried many times before it went through. 🙂

Thanks for the quick response, I will keep trying that. Have a great day!

I'm already registered for an Aug. 20 seat but want to take it again on Sept. 11, but it won't let me register. Will it only let you if you have no current registration? By the way, the reason I'm taking it in Aug is b/c some of my state schools only accept Aug. MCAT scores but I need more study time.

yeah you can't register for another one till august 21st. one registration at a time otherwise every test date would have been filled up back in april

EDIT: misread the original post....nevermind!

What a load of crock. I was assuming there was a problem with registration and it was just that?! Now my test center is full.

Ok, as I suspected....

I've been checking three sites repeatedly this morning. For the past hour and a half or so, all 3 had said NO SEATS. Now, 2 of the 3 have seats.

So take that FWIW, but to me, it suggests the system has some difficulties in times of high traffic. Just keep checking.....

I finally got a seat after repeated credit card issues and no seats available issues 4 hours away.

Good luck to the rest of you! It seems like some sites are open now.

I decided to register for the Davie location just to reserve the seat. If a spot opens up in Miami I will move there.

I mean whats $50??

The message I was looking for. Thanks avenger

yo the only location in my state has already filled up. these people are jumping on these seats like starved hyenas!

how did you even know they'd opened seats up because i would've had no clue if i hadn't come on here?

There are still spots in Colorado, if anyone would go out there the weekend before, hike a little, then rock the mcat.

ma 2 cents....the thompson prometrics should be capable of handling more mcaters. I mean, honestly, how the **** do they expect 23948304584 people to take the exam when locations are 234234 million miles away from each other...and they let a friggin 20 people or so take it during the scheduled time. they are effortlessly screwing our generation.

just ma 2 cents.

its because they're god dam idiots. you'd think they'd have some common sense. what they do is they still allow GRE and GMAT tests on MCAT days. if i recall correctly, you can walk in almost any dam day of the week and take the GRE tests. you would think that those idiots would have the sense to say well since the mcat is only offered 21 days a year, lets just have those days be reserved for mcat students only.

in addition, the rules for the GRE and GMAT are sooooooo relaxed. i had some kid chewing gum and blowing bubbles next to me who was taking the GRE while I tried to do the mcat. for mcat you basically have to get a cavity search and make sure you're not taking a single thing inside.

If you search by state/country looks like they removed the Sept. 11 test date

Registration for the September 11, 2007 is temporarily closed. Registration will reopen August 14, 2007.

wow looks like they did close all september 11 test dates for right now

Anyone who did get a peak before they temporarily closed registration know which NY locations were offering it?

Brooklyn and then 3 other in the city, White Plains, Univ of Buffalo, East Syracuse, Rochester, and a few more

they had a bunch

this is ridiciulous -- i tried all morning and kept getting denied with my credit cards. i had plenty of $ available on them.

never took the mcat. bet the main problem is a lot of people are registering who already took it and want a seat just in case they dont like their scores

i feel like were 1000 hungry wolves fighting over one piece of meat. this is ridiculous. i hope its better when registration reopens tomorrow

Any idea if the 9/11 date will include international venues? Considering that the AAMC bureaucracy has proclaimed that this new date is in fact a "regular" administration, the powers-that-be should rightfully extend this additional test date to test-takers abroad. In the likely event that this date is exclusively for Americans, how would one go about making an official petition/argument for such?

...now abstaining from further ranting about the predictable nonsense of the Association of American Medical Capitalists...

I'm assuming email would be the best option: [email protected]

I've noticed that there's still no Sept. 11th option. Anyone else?

I have been checking the all day today for Sept 11 spot around MA, but the date doesn't even appear on the registration options. Did anybody else had this problem? or is it just cause they haven't opened it yet... although it's 3:30 pm now and its Aug14th
Damn I hate AAMC!!!!!!

Yeah, its still not up...I called them and they said that they don't know, but it will be up some time today...I would not count on it though because that has been a recurring theme with them this year. I guess it was expected because this is the first year for the CBT, but I can't believe that there is not one testing center in Los Angeles when L.A is the biggest city in CA and CA has the most people applying to medical school.😱

"Registration for the September 11, 2007 is temporarily closed. We anticipate that registration will reopen by the afternoon (Eastern Time) of August 15, 2007."

Can't hold off the hungry wolves much longer, AAMC!!

That will be fun, trying to register while july 13th MCAT people are checking the site constantly to get their scores.

Registration was available for about 20 minutes this morning, but they never updated the main page. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but when i went to reserve a seat, sept. 11 was no longer available. I assumed they were going to reopen it since the main page still said aug 14 at the time...doesn't seem like they did though...anyone else have a similar experience?

AAMC nice job ripping everyone off making tests either EASY or IMPOSSIBLE... NICE👍

Did you get your confirmation email? If so, I'd say you shouldn't worry about it. The other option is calling AAMC to double check.

I was able to get a seat yesterday for 9/11. I checked also today and still don't see the 9/11 as an option.

I'm starting to feel like I've PAID for a ghost seat (meaning there is not really going to be a test on that day but now I'm screwed because I moved the test from 9/8 due to distance and my old seat has been taken).

You don't think that would happen do you? 😕

Good morning to all seat seekers!

FYI, it's about 9:30am EST & Sept. 11 registration is now open. I don't know for how long, but I believe it was made available about half hour - hour ago. Good luck getting a seat close to home! I'm so glad I don't have to drive 7 hours to take the exam now.

Wake up & pull out your credit cards!

So on Monday, as I posted earlier, there was a period of time when 3 of 3 locations near me said NO SEATS. Towards the end of the morning, before they closed registration, I got a 2 out of 3 saying they DID have seats.

Now, the third location which I never was able to see a seat available has seats.

I knew there couldn't be THAT many people already registered first thing on Monday. The site got hammered and spit back tons of false negatives. Anyways, appears to be running smoothly this morning. Good luck to all.
