Addressing PE

That's what happens when you have organizations like the AOA and the NBOME looking after your brand recognition and advocating for you since 1897. People realized Trump's physician is a DO and everyone loses their minds because they seriously don't even know what a DO is. This tweet and the replies are unbelievable:

I read the comments, thankfully the vast majority of people are correcting her misinformed notions, and pointing out that DO’s and MD’s get the exact same training and train in the same residencies and that there also no such thing as a COVID specialist LOL

It's Cher... So I don't expect much. Anyone with that many digits in their bank account are far removed from reality.

Let's get back to bashing the nbome for shafting us. Enough with politics.
 
It says a lot that our biggest advocate isn't even a DO.

I legitimately think most DOs who make it to acgme residencies are so fatigued by AOA, COCA, NBOME, and seeing what the osteopathic specialty boards do for CME to their peers that they just completely put it out of their lives forever and have no intention of going back to help. Same for helping at DO schools as good faculty. I can't say I blame them. Why spend that negative energy and spend more time in such a terrible environment?

Abandoning any relation with these orgs and the school prevents them from profiting off your good name and labor unfortunately.

I'm optimistic about what Carmody said -- the old guard is aging out. There are fewer of them than there are us. I really believe massive overhauls to the NBOME and COMLEX will happen in the next 10-15 years. Both are becoming increasingly irrelevant.

The only thing that will prevent that is if the OMM gunners are the only ones who assume leadership positions in the NBOME/AOA.

The massive expansion of DO schools that have been filled by young people that often would prefer an MD will result in the NBOME, COCA, and AOA collapsing under the weight of their agitated constituents. The continued indifference to the physicians that they are supposed to train and represent is painful. The AOA, at least, has made respectable strides

It's terrible the nonsense people have to go through this year but most residents are just too busy to get involved. It's not like it would make a difference with those organizations anyways. Might as well debate with a brick wall. As far as helping out students in other ways, I think most would be willing. I've been in touch with 4th years at my old school regarding my specialty and the match. I know a few others who have done the same. I wouldn't be opposed to giving some talks at a DO school but after doing an academic month in med school, I'm not sure I would want to be faculty. Granted it's going to differ at every institution.
 
The email read like opposite day. I particularly like the part where they say that they love us like grandchildren and want the best for us so nevermind those nefarious people showing clear evidence to the contrary.

I'm so glad these other random orgs are testing. Strength in being wrong together, baby. The only org I care about is what the MD folks do as they are our peers...

"We hear and acknowledge everyone's concerns but also **** your concerns losers"
 
On a positive note, they did make sure that all PDs know that PE/CS tests are suspended on ERAS which was something people were worried about.
 
I still don’t understand the way they are phrasing stuff.

“At present, we continue to aim for the availability of testing in November”

That is so wishy washy. It still sounds like they are hedging for some reason. November is in 3ish weeks and they can’t give a resounding announcement? WTF. There is still something going on behind the scenes here.

You tell me, hopefully it’ll change but it’s unrealistic. Currently rescheduled mine to April because people have been cancelling. They’re just trying to save their own ass because it could affect their accreditation if we opt to take the USMLE series instead (apparently)

That is absurd! There is no way your whole class will have a chance to take it before May 15! That could be a lawsuit in and of itself

So Chicago still has mandatory 14 day quarantine in effect... is the NBOME just expecting us to break it and it not be on them? How are they so incompetent? It really is mind blowing that a Physician led organization who champions "they are protecting the public" is forcing medical students to travel and see fake patients during a pandemic.

Completely pathetic. If the NBOME has to censor criticism then that means that they should reevaluate their decisions. If they are making sound decisions then they have nothing to worry about with a few people challenging it so no reason to hide it.

Oh wait, that's definitely not true here. Everyone disagrees with them and that won't change no matter how many emails they send saying they are listening to everyone telling them to do the opposite of what they are doing.
 
Meanwhile they quietly added 3 new dates at Chicago in November that I would have been interested in but didn’t catch even though I check constantly even today. I noticed 2 new dates that were full when I woke up and kept checking and then suddenly there was a third that was full.
 
Has anyone just straight up cancelled their test date? Did you get a refund? Sorry if this has been asked already.

Yeah our school doesn't require it to graduate. Plus i really could use the $1200! I'll just sign up for it again when i "feel comfortable" (or not 😉) as per NBOME's instructions.

So, what if your school keep track of you guys? Is not like they can UNgraduate you. Once you're a DO, they can't undo that. Your school is really pushing it there, it will be a challenge to graduate all of your class if they're set on that policy. I'm sorry you guys are going through this
