I am sure this has been asked before but I have had no luck finding the information. Does anybody know a source that can tell me the number of accepted students vs the number of interviewed students? I am especially interested in UMDNJ-SOM, CCOM, DMU and NSU

Try US News, they usually have good stats about that type of stuff. The down side is that you have to pay for online access about 15 bucks, the upside is you get to access stats and helps whittle away your list of schools to apply to. Although I always liked the spray and pray approach when applying

Hey don't bother getting that. I have the online subscription for this year and I checked and they don't have much of that info for the DO schools....

I'm pretty sure you aren't going to find much info on the number of interviews, if any at all.

Here's the AACOM info guide:
http://www.aacom.org/resources/bookstore/cib/Pages/default.aspx

Has stats such as amount of applications, matriculants, etc... A lot of good stuff in there, but nothing specifically about how many they interview. Could also try and call the individual schools and see if they'll give you a ballpark figure.

Ok on second thought I checked the schools you mentioned. There was no such info available for CCOM or DMU, here is what I found for Nova and UMDNJ.
Nova

In state
516 applied, 203 interviewed, 160 accepted, 138 enrolled
OOS
1586 applied, 278 interviewed, 206 accepted, 90 enrolled
Avg GPA 3.48, Avg MCAT 8.3 per section

UMDNJ
Total
3250 applied, 356 interviewed, 232 accepted, 124 enrolled
In state

OOS

Hope that helps!!!👍

Here's the info from the 2008 Princeton Review 168 Best Medical Schools book. I think I posted it a while back. UMDNJ in state vs. OOS is said to be skewed because they report the numbers AFTER their students "very easily" gain in state status after matriculating.

hey im curious c-bear. Did any osteopathic schools make it into that roster for the PR book?

If you download the excel sheet I posted, it shows all the DO schools that made it. In order to "make it," the only qualification was that the data were available at the time of print. Only newer schools didn't make it in there.

It looks like pretty good odds either way. If I were in vegas I'd take those.

Those admissions books often use data that is two years old. If you want up to date info, either look at the schools' websites for class profile info, or just e-mail admissions offices - they'll most likely give you the info.

Hi everyone. I really need some advice. My GPA is a 3.00 and science gpa is a 2.5. I have great letters of recommendation, employment in healthcare, and DO shadowing. I take my MCAT in January and I plan to graduate with my BS in April 2009. My number one school is NOVA! Since my gpa is not high and I have not taken the MCAT should I wait to apply for the next cycle, or go ahead and try for this one. Ideally I would not want to wait and be a year without school (working arg) but I do not want to get rejected and have to apply as a reapplicant. Any suggestions!!! VERY WORRIED 🙁 If you could please reply to me in private if possible just because I do not check the site very often.

All you can do is try. The cost/benefit of applying now is in your favor. Your gpa is on the low side, but if you have a solid MCAT they may consider you still. Just give it a whirl and see....

There are people that have matriculated with that gpa. But it would require a 30+ MCAT I'd imagine. Some schools have a 2.75 cutoff so you may want to look into that also....just so you're not throwing money away applying to those schools. In addition I think it would be wise to apply very broadly. Goodluck!

i know this is a bit old topic, but towards statistics of DO schools i've had some very good luck buying- The princeton review's Best 168 Medical Schools book. It has alot of really good info on DO schools. and its all in one place without the internet connection!

In the book for DMU:
# applied: 2387
# interview 435
# enrolled 215
aOverall GPA 3.6 MCAT bio 9 phys 8 verb 8 essay O

I'm a LECOM student and I can't figure your math on the LECOM admissions stats. We have less that 300 students in our class. So those numbers look way off.

I would check the source.

Maybe it's combining the data for both LECOM campuses.

Hmmm i think you may be right sithr, because according to CIB together the campuses have 438 students which is a hell of a lot closer to 421 than it is to 273

Who knows sometimes i've noticed that the number accepted is more than the number interviewed so i'm sure there are a few errors in their data.

LECOM has a separate interview for their postbacc students esp. those failing first year, then put into postbacc and depending on how they did in postbacc will then be invite for interview and repeat the first year.

Some more numbers for y'all, I believe that they are from last cycle:

PCOM
3,484 apps
717 interview invites
635 interviewed
375 acceptances
268 attending
GPA: 3.4, BCPM: 3.3, MCAT: 24 (averages)

GA-PCOM
2,614 apps
322 interview invites
287 interviewed
142 acceptances
86 attending
GPA: 3.3, BCPM: 3.1, MCAT: 23

And before you ask, they're from the PCOM admissions office.

Thank YOu for the stats

But how could there be 142 acceptances FOr GA-PCOM, and only 86 attending? What happened to the other 56? Are they okay 🙄?

It's called a yield rate. No school has 100% yield, hence they have to accept more than the number of seats in order to fill a class. Those other people went somewhere else.

If they accept more students than the number of seats available, and find out that this particular year, not alot people go else where, what do they do now?😕

They have their historial statistics to work with along with and more importantly a waitlist which ensures a school fills their seats but doesn't over fill

It depends by how much a school goes over. If it is a few seats (<10) then it is never really a problem. They leave some wiggle room in there. If it is more than the max number of seats and will throw off clinical stuff, they tend to over incentives to delay it a year. Many people get offered a year's tuition off if they volunteer to take a seat in the next year's class.

Nobody ever gets a seat taken away unjustly. It is similar to what happens when an airline overbooks. They aren't going to boot you off because someone with a nicer checkbook comes along. They just try to give you incentive to hold till a later flight. Some people work on a master's during that period, research, travel, or just work.

Like other posters said, they work off old admissions stats that tell them how many to accept. Others will only accept the number of seats, and then with each dropped acceptance issue a new one.

And if they have too many....ask Drexel how it worked out with them having 30 too many students in their class last year. Oops. I think they may even get fined for that sort of mistake.

so wait..only 60 applicants are in-state? That's impossible

Ok on second thought I checked the schools you mentioned. There was no such info available for CCOM or DMU, here is what I found for Nova and UMDNJ.
