Greetings,
I did do a search and I apologize of this has already been asked. But just as the title implies, has anyone been accepted to a DO school without DO or MD letter?.
Do you think it's possible?

Someone, somewhere.

But why would you try? Find a physician and get the letter. Not doing so shows a lack willingness to jump through the hoop.

most of the schools i have applied to won't even review your application until you have a letter from a physician.

This is very true. One of my letters of rec was from an international physician (now a lawyer here and was my physiology professor). He did not specify that he was a doctor and my application was on hold until he sent an email to the dean of admissions.

Most physicians offer to write you a letter after the first day of shadowing, it really is not a big deal at all. Most are happy to do it.

+1. They've all been through it, know the deal, and were happy enough someone did it for them that they're willing to do it for you.

Impossible. Sorry! :meanie:

Just kidding. I think there was a post on here about LECOM (I think) actually having someone sit down with you in a separate interview with a D.O. to talk about osteopathic medicine... after which he will write you a letter. I wouldn't bank on this at ALL. There's just nothing good that will seemingly come from it... assuming it's true. Just get yourself an actual letter, lol.

You don't need a DO/MD letter at MSU. Just 2 letters from people who know you well.

better question is why wouldn't you get a letter from a physician?

unnecessary risk IMO, as letters are easy to come by.

most applicants will have a letter, why would they pick someone without one?

If I remember right, PCOM only requires a letter from your academic adviser/dean of your college. Although I definitely agree that it is only to your benefit to obtain a physician LOR.

Just get the letter. I know it's a pain to get, but it'll show your commitment. I had to shadow 3 docs before the 3 doc was kind enough to write me a letter. Plus, there's only a handful of schools that don't require them. Most will require a physician letter.

But "strongly encourages" a letter from a Physician. If you haven't submitted yet, don't hold back your application by any means because it's getting later in the year, but work on trying to get a letter from a doc.

although i am new to the process i really think its worth getting and also think DO's want to help you because they were in out place once too...i had to ask the brother of a girl i used to date who is a DO...but he was very supportive even though I def. met him in a different situation..

So far I have been accepted into a school (UNECOM) without an MD or a DO letter.

Yes, and yes. The admissions office will schedule a brief meeting with a D. O. before the interview if you're completely stuck, but I would use this as the ultimate last resort-- I can't imagine the recommendation they would give would be as stellar as if, say, one took the initiative to go out and find a local D. O. 😛
