Hi guys,
I am new here 🙂 I have been looking around old threads but I can't find the answer to my question.

Anyways, I have recently decided I want to go into Dentistry I have been doing so much research on topic. My situation maybe different then many on you here I am attending California community college technically it should be my second year but due to some issue its my first year of college .

So after looking up so Dental programs I found out about University of Pacific Dental program ( 8 + hrs drive) now I went to their website and read all the info. but I am not exactly sure what their admission requirements are 😕 I plan on taking all the prereq's at community college since these classes are transferable.

(I am planing to take ROP dental assisting class next semester so I can get some experience by shadowing dentist)

Instead of transferring to a UC or CSU (stay there for two years )I would LOVE to just go into dental program , I really don't see the point of getting bachelors degree if this option is accessible .

My question is'it possible to get into UofP from CC? what advice can you give me? PLEASE share , anything you say I will appreciate.

Thanks in advance

If you go to course saver.com, click on videos, bottom right hand corner there is one called UoP interview. This is a Q and A with a UoP admission rep.

If you mean you would like to go right to dental school from CC, that won't happen. If you look through the other CC threads, there is a pretty strong consensus on not taking many required courses at a CC and definitely as few upper division as possible. Very few go on to dental school without an undergrad degree. Unless you are an absolutely stellar student, it doesn't happen too much.

Even thou UofP don't require a bachelors degree ? that's what I don't understand on their website it says community college students are accepted 😕

The link doesn't work 🙁

most schools can TECHNICALLY accept students without their bachelors.. but it is highly unlikely. there are enough strong applicants (who have their bachelors or higher). sorry, i know it's not what you want to hear.

Iowa accepts maybe one person a year without a degree, those students are amazing applicants both academically as well as with extracurriculars. The typical dental school applicant could not do it. In addition to that, those people have taken three years at a university, you would be hard pressed to find anyone to went right from a CC

Although they may accept CC credits, you cannot enter directly after 2 years. Their website says they require at least 90 credits, or 3 years, to martriculate. Even if you apply without a degree, generally you need to be very competitive to gain admission, 3.8+ GPA, 21+ DAT, and maybe something else special.

I would plan on getting your bachelors degree and apply after 3 years. If you get in great, but if not, apply again after you graduate. Good luck!!

I gave them a call today and representative told me the same thing. Thank you 🙂

Yeah just focus on getting into a dental school not one specific school UOP receives the most applicants of any dental school out there because of the area and its a 3yr program. So you must be realistic if you could do a few years CC and then go straight to dental school which is only a 3 yr program then we all would do it.

Good luck.
