Hey everyone so Im finally applying to OOS Osteopathic schools and I was wondering if anyone would be willing to give me info about the schools that I have already applied to and advice on possible schools to add if necessary.

A little background on me; Texas resident
3.8 cGPA
3.7 sGPA

MCAT (3 so far, one more planned)
25
25
27 (7p, 10b, 10v)
one planned in a couple weeks. Im currently a medical science masters student at UNTHSC and I didnt originally want to retake my MCAT but they have a policy that if its under 28 then its mandatory. So I did a Princeton prep course and I am scheduled to retake in a couple weeks. I talked to someone on the admissions committee here at TCOM and they said that they take the highest score so not to worry about doing worse on this attempt so it made me more ok with attempting again. Has anyone heard of other DO schools that have the same attitude? I know that KCOM does due to a friend of mine that ended up scoring lower and getting an acceptance.

So the schools I applied to
  • Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University
  • Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University Admissions Office
  • Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine
  • A.T. Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine - Bradenton Campus
  • Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine - Erie/Seton Hill
  • Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (formerly UMDNJ SOM)
  • University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Western University of Health Sciences/College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific - Pomona
  • Western University of Health Sciences/College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific - Lebanon
  • West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine Admissions Office

Any thoughts about schools that I can add? if I should add any? Also any comments about the schools that are on this list? I know some of the schools on this list are regionally bias but I thought what the hell haha. My app has been processing for like 2 weeks now, is that to long? should I contact them?

Processing is normal should take 3-6 weeks. List looks fine. I would change some of what you have based on regional stuff but its your app.

WesternU Lebanon is heavy Northwest bias. In their secondary, there are two questions pertaining your relations to the Pacific Northwest.

86% of OSU-COM's class are from Oklahoma. That's 15/114 seats per class for OOS'ers. And I'd be willing to guess those 15 probably live in surrounding states or have some sort of ties to OK, just speculation though.

Also, Western U Pomona c/o 2018 is 77% CA residents. 39/170 seats are for OOS'ers

So me wanting to live in that area wont count? lol unfortunately I dont have any ties to the Northwest but I see myself practicing there.

Yeah I know this is a crap shoot, but Im from north texas and this school is actually closer to family then other schools in Texas so Im hoping they give me a shot.

Is this because their applicant pool is mostly from CA or do they have a policy of accepting IS applicants? Ive tried getting an answer to this but I can find a solid one. And I do have ties to Ca so I thought about giving it a shot.

Any schools people would recommend me taking a look at? Due to your experience; friend who attends, interviewed there, etc.? Thanks for the comments, I was concerned about the schools you guys mentioned but idk, I thought it would be worth it to take a chance. This is my 3rd time applying and I really want to get in somewhere.

third time applying? Where and when did you apply previously? What are your ECs like, and what were they like in the previous 2 cycles?

Don't bother with the re-take of MCAT; I think you've hit your ceiling. A 27 is fine for those schools that don't average.

Suggest adding TUNCOM, DMU, PCOM-GA, PacNW, MUCOM, DMU, AZCOM, LMU, Pikesville, all 3 VCOMs, delete UNE unless you're from New England.

The first two times only in Texas. And they were pretty half-assed attempts. I basically thought I no chance because of my mcat so I did some dumb things like not completing secondaries and stuff. My EC are decent I think, have volunteering, shadowing, research, leadership. I just didn't have my stuff together in the past I think.
