Hi, I'm Geraldine Magellan Cortes Marco Polo da Gama XIV,

Since my last post I have been accepted into medical school, which has thankfully transformed me from a needy, insecure, weak suck-up into a self righteous, patronizing bigot with an over-inflated sense of my own self worth. Since I no longer need advice from lowly PRE-meds I have condescended to wallow in my own self-superiority and sprinkle tid bits of knowledge to the less fortunate. 😎

Interview advice #1:
Always mention that you drove to your interview in a hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicle. (OR flew in a bicycle powered glider) The adcoms will be testing you so show extreme disgust verging on hysteria when they mention they consume fossil fuels. They will be impressed with your unwavering dedication to environmental issues and correctly assume that this devotion translates into a love of all things living, in particular, your fellow human beings.

Personally I am appalled that this has not been mentioned before.

Hey y'all, you guys are hilarious, but I have a serious question that I'm sure y'all can help me with.

Here's my problem. I am applying to med school this year with a 4.0 gpa from MIT and a 45T on the MCAT. I have been reading recently that adcoms (and the rest of the world, for that matter) all see people with high numbers as heartless minions of The Dark Lord himself. Despite the fact that my EC's involve adopting blind, crippled orphaned refugee children and raising them as my own progeny, as well as moving into a nursing home to devote myself full-time to the care of the elderly, I'm worried that the adcoms will take one look at my stats and throw my application into the trash.
Here's my question: Should I sabatoge my gpa this year by failing on purpose? I already am planning on retaking the MCAT in April since I know I have no shot at admission this year, and I'll try my best to score as low as possible. Any more advice?

oh my god let me tell you all that you have NO idea what you're tlaking about. What even makes you think you can give advice as premeds? A lot of what you're saying is ONLY conjecture because face it, y'all don't even know that **I** come from a top 20 college and already been accepted to a top 5 school. I am so damn good, it's like my **** don't stink.

did I mention that I'm going to a top 5 med school next fall?

So now that I have all this free time on my hands, I got nuthin better to do than get my sorry ass on SDN, use multiple ID's and make remarks on what I think about each SDN member and their 100000000 opinions on "how to get into medical school, the SDN way." Sure, I could help others with my expertise on getting in (did i mention I'm going to a top 5?), but why would I do that when I'm "riding on my own nutsacks" (only I know what that means because I'm going to attend a Top 5 next fall) into a top 5 medical school next fall?

I'm SO damn jealous of all these people with the cute cartoon characters in their names or icons, but I got my top 5 college. So HAH. Y'all can take your silly advice, and unintelligent comments, with your half assed cartoon character icons and put em up where the sun don't shine. Cuz I'm gonna make me a whole new ID so I can spend even more time portraying myself as THE LOSER on SDN who got into a Top 5, but never learned how to use alternate IP's so the Moderators don't catch me.

Well, you have definately come to the right place, since certain SDNers (cough!wallstreet!cough!) seem to think I "have soem SERIOUS pet issues". But first, recent events on the Pre-Allo board require me to make the following disclaimer:

I spend all my lonely days venting my frustration by giving phony, misleading advice to a bunch of naive premeds.

So take anything I say with a grain of salt. 😉

About your problem - if Spotsy is a Chia Turtle, Frog, or even Bunny, you shouldn't have too much of a problem keeping him in a dorm. Just make sure you check with the school first. If you have a Chia Puppy or Kitten, you may not be able to live in a dorm. However, most schools I have been too have reasonably affordable apartments close to campus that will allow you to have a well-behaved (usually smaller) dog or cat. The real problem is if Spotsy is a Chia Pig, Cow, Hippo, or Elephant. I think most med schools would be unaccomodating, but you may want to check with some of the schools that have a Rurual Med program.

If you have a Chia Tree or Herb Garden, there should be little or no problem. But if Spotsy is a Chia Head (Clown, Professor, Man, Boy, or Elmer Fudd) you may have to pay additional rent for a roommate. 🙁

Sorry Galen, but you're absolutely screwed. Everyone knows that no residency program in the country accepts DO applicants, so even if you do magically manage to get into a DO school, your degree will be useless.

As for the Carribeans, you'll be lucky if the INS lets you back in the country afterwards.

Okay, this post belongs over on Y!IFMBA, but since you're a newbie, we can forgive you this once. 😉 This thread addresses serious problems, such as the one I have right now.

I'm starting to get really depressed. 🙁 Even though I've already been accepted to 15 of the top 20 schools, but I have yet to hear from Wash U, UCSF, Harvard or Hopkins! Granted, I didn't apply to any of these schools, but I figured my 3.99998 GPA and 44W MCAT should have been enough to get an acceptance without submitting my AMCAS or going to an interview. Does anyone have any idea how I might be able to get an interview so very late in the application cycle?

Which brings me to my other problem - I haven't been on an interview for almost a month now. 😱 I'm afraid I've lost my touch, that my hunter green suit will look musty, I'll forget my cr and/or kneepads, or I'll forget the "correct" answers to questions like "Why do you want to be a doctor?" Is there anything I should do at this point to brush up on my interviewing skills?

Your dilemna is actually quite easy to solve. You see in order to get into med school, you need to be perfect. How else would you survive in the med-bot realm? So getting back to the topic at hand, you need to raise your GPA by .00002 and a 44W just won't cut it. I would recommend taking the MCAT again so that you may achieve a Z on your writing sample. 😉

I dont know where you people get off thinking that you should be giving other people "advice" or "emotional support" in this application process. As a matter of fact, you shouldn't be posting anything at all. I'm a fourth year at UCSF (and i'm AOA...and a I got a 262 on step I...but you shouldn't be flaunting your credentials, really), and I must tell you, since you haven't gotten into medical school, you dont know anything. I mean ANYTHING!!!! How dare some naive med school acceptee try to give some pointers on issues such as "does UPitt screen" or "do all schools require the MCAT"? What do you know, you're not in freaking med school? What authority do you have?!??! 😡 I bet you cant even spell you own freaking names 🙄

if you've gotten into med school already, instead of posting your worthless "advice" that obviously hasn't worked ever for anyone at any point in the miserable existence of this site, or "showing a sense of humanity" towards your fellow premeds, you should sit in your room, locked away from society until med school orientation. This thread is intended to help SDNers who have serious problems and anxieties about the applicatoin process - like should the kneepads you bring to interviews be 100% cotton, or a poly-cotton blend? And should you try to palm your interviewer a $20 or $50 when you shake hands at the end of the interview?

ok ladies, you're really starting to irritate me with this lounge type drivel on my thread 🙄

let us not forget what the original intent of this thread was. thats right, to debate affirmative action in medical school admissions. We need as many circuitous threads going on in SDN as possible, rehashing the same damn subjects in pre allo every couple of days. It is important that we stay focused and get into repetitive arguments on the same issues such as URM admissions, the merits of thank you notes, whether to type or handwrite your secondaries, and other things that have been beaten to their merciless death in pre allo.

Frankly, I'm shocked at the degradation of pre allo recently. When I read these forums, there are usually only 3 URM/AA pissing contests, a mere4 threads on horribly redundant topics like "does undergrad reputation matter" that could have easily been addressed using the search functions, or hardly two inane threads postulating students with high stats have no personality, and maybe one visit from an outside observer chastising SDN, within the first two pages 😡

I think the mods should start cleaning house, and keeping this forum in line with its true intent: redundancy

Problem for you is I've already bribed them all and to top it all off I have done the ultimate EC. Yes, that's right I have devoted the rest of my application cycle to establishing a fertility clinic in Cambodia for midget and dwarf amputees suffering from penile dysfunction and explosive bowel syndrome. This so good rather than simply accept me, all med schools will desire me so much that they will immediately put ME on their adcom where I can summarily reject all you losers!!!
