Anyone else bummed about the new Air Force "everyone wears blues on Mondays" thing? I have to go buy new shoes because my old ones dry-rotted sitting on my shelf AND feel like a bus-driver/Dairy Queen guy once a week to boot. I might even have to wash this shirt for the first time since....I don't know....maybe ever.

I hope you're kidding. And if not then stop yapping about meaningless things . . .you demean the rest of your posts (which are usually informative) and you come off as whiny. You're in the military, you gotta wear a uniform. And if there's a uniform change, you have to roll with it . . .

I remember in the late 90's when it was blues everyday and BDUs one day per week!

Seriously, is it me or does "Blue Mondays" sound like some campy jazz band or something.

Holy crap! A little jumpy are we? I'm bummed, too. My pants are getting too tight for my fat ass. And I love being whiny. My posts are also almost never informative. Also, ActiveDutyMD is my hero and he only rolls with what he wants to. I hope this clarifies things.

Nice troll post

I have to be at the hospital early enough that I can wear civies in and then put on scrubs.

I just had a thought: with the exception of a 2 year mission, I've been wearing the uniforms of the Air Force since 1989!😱 Sheesh....and only 10 more years to go until retirement.

Relax. It's meant to be a light-hearted post.

It's time the Air Force added a sword to its uniform.

curious to know what type of sword you suggest 😀 but I like the way you're thinking...and maybe a gold chain to go where the tuft of chest hair pops out of that collar😉....I do think we missed the memo with the v-necks fellas....oh well

I also want to throw out there that your "tiger stripes" cammies look incredibly lame, and the only thing it really "camoflages" is the enlisted rank insignia on the sleeve.

:meanie:

Oh, this is so true. We have a few hundred Airmen in our footprint here at the COB. I can never tell what ranks they are. Fortunately, they only have two majors and I know both of them by sight, thus I don't have to worry too much about saluting. Another thing, I wish the females in the AF were not allowed to wear their hair down in the PT uniform. My colleagues and I find it quite "frustrating".

HPSP M2 here. BLUES? Craphole. I honestly think that half my friends from ROTC in College wanted to Pilots/Navs/ABMs just to avoid wearing blues as much as possible. Are they immune to this new requirement?

And USAF MD '05 is my hero. I've been trying to squeeze into my blues every Monday and I'm finding that I gained quite a bit of weight since COT. I think the term "Blues Monday" should be changed to "Monday Blues" just to show how I feel after coming back from the weekend.

No. This is an AF wide innitiative coming straight from the pentagon.

Unless you are preforming job related duties that require use of the utility uniform (i.e. BDUs, Flight Suit, Scrubs, etc.), you are expected to be in blues.

The Airforce's butt ugly bus driver uniform is one of the main reasons i'd rather serve in the Navy.

Tropical Whites are by far the coolest uniform out of all the services.

There can be no debate.

What about the Marine one with the sword? I mean, for crying out loud, you get a friggin sword

Alright, whites are the coolest uniform of services open to doctors.

Also, the Marine sword is blunt. They give them real rifles, real grenades, and a fake sword. I've had quite a few Marine friends complain about this.

What! That settles it. I'm not re-upping to join the marines. Is that Navy sword real?

Even if it's blunt, maybe you can take it down to the local hardware store and get it sharpened or something.

Every USMC officer I know has at least asked about this. Apparently if you sharpen a sword that wasn't designed to be sharpened you really screw up the sword. To get a sharp sword you would need to custom order a sharp sword from a custom manufacturer and have it designed to look like the official sword. Also if anyone noticed that it wasn't actually the official sword it's apparently some sort of offense.

I think the AF COT and OTS folks had some swords. They looked kind of awkward with them though. 🙂

I never got a sword at COT. Where did you see AF officers carrying swords?

Must have been the OTS guys then...the only thing I know COT got to do was step over the blue rope and salute us (cadets) every time they saw us

The Navy sword is real enough that when my friend was messing around and poked me in the leg (he was drunk) I noticed how my choker whites became a nice shade of red. Yeah, the edge of the blade is blunt, but you can still STAB people with it.

Oh, and O-4's and above are actually required to own a sword by Navy regs....but I know many that don't. It's not like you wear it often -- usually weddings and such.

But you COULD wear it often, no? Perhaps even do a few I&Ds in clinic with it? 🙂

You had AF officers saluting you as a Navy cadet?

Navy cadet??!!! I'm AF all the way!! It was at Maxwell AFB in 07...and yes, all the newly arrived officers (again AF) going through COT were saluting us, calling us sir, etc. I think they figured things out pretty quickly and put a stop to that though. Although I have to admit, every time we go onto a base we get a few salutes walking around from the enlisted (perhaps our funny pins on the collar set them off). I will never forget the time as a freshman I got a nice sharp salute from someone with a whole lotta stripes! Scared the heck out of me!!

Ah, I see. I guess I'm just still trying to figure out where the swords came in. Never saw anyone with a sword at Maxwell. Know what you mean though about the salutes. I'm on an AD away rotation currently and got saluted by like an E8. Man you see these guys coming down the sidewalk and just want to salute them.
