I am currently an HPSP guy entering my last year of residency. I am in the process of applying for fellowships and I have heard many rumors about how many extra years you have to pay back for doing a fellowship. For example a one year fellowship will require that you give the military 2 years of pay back. Does anybody have any information?

For FTOS positions(eg go to civilian place and get paid by AF): payback is year for year with a minimum of 2 years. So do a one year fellowship, owe two years. Do a two year fellowship, owe two years.

Deferred (go to civilian on own dime): no addnl payback.

FTIS: check on that one, but I think it's year for year with no minimum.
