The man drives me nuts. He's a big fan of generalizing and blanket statements. Except when it's applied to him. "Traditional horsemanship" involves horrible tack and gadgets, but his own long whip is "A thin twig or whip, lunge whip as a long hand for light and careful touching and hints for a horse. All these tools should be considered by a horse as a part of the teacher’s body". Never mind that a bit and a whip can both be used properly or abused.

He's almost the king of the strawman argument. He picks the absolute worst parts of horsemanship and then argues against that. Such as all traditional riders use rollkur and false collection and aspire to beat their horse into submission. 🙄

What a weird website. It reads like a peta member got drunk and and went crazy on dreamweaver.

The ideology of equestrian sport is that "the horse may be eaten"????? wtf. I hope this dude is a troll.

BTW, whenever a nutter like that claims to have veterinary backing for their agenda, what they're doing is an appeal to authority, one of the logical fallacies of debate. I try to remember 3 things about these appeals to authority:

1. Said vet may or may not even exist, and may or may not have any expertise in the field in question (how much credence any vet's opinion should get regarding training techniques is up to debate).

2. Said vet may not have said anything of the sort or given permission for the use of their name - if I wanted to go online and say on my website that Dr. Madigan (one of the equine medicine professors at UCD) thought all horses should only eat walnuts and brussel sprouts, there would be nothing stopping me unless someone who knew him happened to run across my little corner of the web, they told him, and he made me take it down under threat of lawsuit. More mildly, it is very easy to take a statement that someone did make as part of a longer dialogue and put it completely out of context so that it appears to be saying something completely the opposite.

3. Finally, no group of people is immune from whackos, vets included.

The "bio" section especially. Apparently this guy was a tv host, an advisor to the russian government, a stunt man, and a mercenary in the balkans. He was awarded the Transdniestrian medal of Participation for the war in Chechnya. Whether this guy is crazy or full of BS, either way, that website is amazing.
