How helpful is an alumni letter when applying or trying to get off a waitlist? Just looking for realistic expectations.

if that alumni supervised you in a professional capacity and can attest to your work ethic and/or academics, then it's useful. in other words if you have a regular LOR from an alum, use it. if the alum is just a buddy or acquaintance then it's not going to do you any good.
