Does it affect your chances at all? I mean even in the slightest?

I honestly don't think anyone really knows how big a deal alumni connections are. I bet for each school it is different, and would depend on what kind of alumnus your looking at. You're better off just making your application good enough that you don't need alumni to get you in.

At best, a "connection" will get you in the door (interview) but, unless the stats are there, no Dean in his/her right mind would risk having the "selected" enrollee be dismissed because of poor academic/clinical performance.
