Help me out here fellow post-bacs cuz I'm having a huge problem!! I'm doing a post-bac now and I can't seem to get an A in anything!!! The thing is, I'll have an A or high B going into the final and then BAM... I end up screwing up royally on my final and ending up with yet another B under my belt!!! Now I know Bs aren't bad perse... but lets face it, A's are much better and I only have 1 for my post-bac work... the rest are Bs...

Physics 1,2 & 3 - B, B, and B (the last one I'm not sure, I just took the final tonight)

Bio. 1, 2 & 3 - B, A, B

chem. 1, 2, & 3 - C, B, B (last one not sure, just took the final tonight)

I'm doing a post-bac here so I'm supposed to be aceing everything!!! This freaks me out because I'm thinking... oh jeez.. i'm not gonna get in!! Is there anyone else out there who can relate to me?!?! Please be nice with responses... I don't know if I can take much more disappointment 🙁

Where did you take your classes???

I'm not post bacc yet, but let me say I feel you on the "cant get anything but B's!"

The past two semester I have gotten more B's than normal. Especially in chemistry courses I am very B prone. I would be happy if it just had a wee + on it , that'd beat a flat B. It's almost always on mid semester exams that I blow my grade, and I attempt to salvage an A with the finals unsuccessfully usually. +pissed+

I did my undergrad at UC Riverside and I'm doing my post-bac at CSULA... oh gosh.. that makes me sound even worse doesn't it... isn't it supposedly easier at a Cal State than a UC?... I can tell you this though.... the Chem. class that I'm in at CSULA is a million times tougher than the one I took at UCR!!.. go figure!!

A little background... I took some premed courses at UCR (biology, chem, and one quarter of physics) but I switched my major, graduated in '02 with a psych. degree and worked in public relations for a year when I suddently realized that I wanted to go back and do what I had set out to do when I was 18, go to med school.

Is the program at CSULA a do it your self program or is it a formal program that you have to apply for (gpa, MCAT requirements)?

Is it the same at other CSU's?

It's a 'do it yourself' program. I've been taking bio, chem, and physics each quarter and what sucks is that my finals all end up on the same day back to back!!!... that's probably a big reason why I end up with a B in everything... someone tell me how to ace back to back finals!!! 🙁

I'm nervous about this for myself, too, when I start PostBacc in the Fall. I think earning the A involves some voodoo trick of understanding not just the material, but the way the material is taught, and the way you're expected to deal with it, for purposes of the class. I always used to complain about the idea that being a good student isn't the same thing as being knowledgeable or having a good command of your subject... but for whatever reason, we've chosen this path, and there are hoops to jump.

I keep reminding myself "I'm in this to be a great doctor, not a great med student." But the reality is, I don't get the chance to be the former unless I can do a good imitation of the latter. Just keep swingin' away, and keep your eyes on the ultimate goal.

I'm in the same boat as you, but I didn't get a job after getting my degree in Human Development. also, I think it is inaccurate to say that CSUs are "easier" than UCs. I was a UC student myself and I found that the quality of education seems to be different with the JC and CSUs than with UCs. I think with the UC system there is a lot of emphasis on research. Some instructors teach not because they want to but because they HAVE to. Personally, I feel the CSU system (some schools more than others) can provide the same quality of education as a UC. A friend of mine (Johns Hopkins Alum) took some summer classes at CSU Hayward and was VERY impressed by the level and quality of education she received at CSUH. Just my opinions and experiences. 🙂

Steeeemmpy you ID---!

If it is a common trend - fix it.

It might take NOT blowing off a week od studying after rocking that first exam (ah! is there a greater joy in life than a beer after seeing a score of 98?)

Whatever it takes - do it.

Post Bac is our last shot at the dream!

I totally agree... I'm just hoping that adcoms will see that too. I'm just gonna keep on truckin' though.... I chose the road for med school so I'll just jump through all the hoops and love it gosh darnit!!!
