Hi guys,

I'm consistently hitting mmm around 60% on just one practice test on all sections. am i good enough to just pass cause that is all i want. Since, i do not ever plan to specialize, and california do not require residency, what good are super board scores anyways? I just want to go out and practice, move on with my life, be done with school. am i missing something here? (cause i can always take it again later if i really really really need a better score, which i just dont see right now.)

anyone who has any helpful advice, pls let me know. thanks!

its hard to say with the new format. But if you are averaging around 80-84 based on the 98 conversion scale, then why not give it to try.

besides specializing, residency, what is a good (90+) score on the NBDE part 1 do for a dentist anyways? I'm a little confused here. anyone know. and pls help me out with my original question... am i gonna pass?

I can't think of board scores for anything but specializing. I know of superb faculty members at my school that didn't bother to study for their boards until a few weeks before and they just passed. They are all now very successful (as in very rich) general practitioners and knowledgeable teachers. Boards score have nothing to do with that.

Now the thing is... what IF you do want to specialize? Seeing that the 3rd and 4th years are the prime clinical years in dental school, what if you take a sudden interest in endo, pedo, or OS and maybe you'd like to pursue those fields? I studied my butt off because I really didn't want to take this stupid test again, so I did my best to do well on it. I did my best to keep the doors open in case I change my mind in the future. But again, its all up to you.

Oh, and your scores seem fine for just passing. I would maybe try to do a little better to have a buffer.

as long as you pass and get licensed.(you know raw scores are different from the composite scores?) You've only taken one practice test, it would be premature to make judgement on just one test.

yeah good stuff hutz (he is so funny on that show btw). i just cannot stand anymore school, i want to get on with my life. But i definitely know what ur saying... its always that IF. I know an average board score will not get me into any of the honors programs at my school (NYUCD). doh.

ps. thx heartrob but yeah thank god for "readjusted"scores!

Look, I studied like crazy for Part I and score and 81%, I scored around 66% on all sections; I don't even know why I studied so hard you don't really have to; just study the decks and old exams and you'll be allright.
I did wanted to specialize since my hand skills suck but oh well, i guess life has forced me into developing them...I have no choice.

yeah i heard that 55% is good enough to pass the boards. anyone else heard of that?

btw

GO USC!! GONNA DUMP ON THE HUSKERS ON 9/15!!

yeah... getting about 55% if the questions right is in the range of what you need to pass. From what our school has been telling us, the pass rate is actually higher with the new format.

how did they explain that it is easier to pass now? what is the reason? does anybody know?

i guess it is easier to pass now coz u don't need to pass in individual sections which was not the case in older version where in u need to get 75%in each section .Now u need a cumulative score of 75%.
