Speedy when you have a hold on your account do you have to resubmit and recertify your application again or will it just automatically go back to active after the transcript is received

Your status will automatically go from "hold" to "active" when all transcripts are marked as "recieved" and you'll get an e-mail notifying you of the update.

On Hold til 6/23
Processed 7/1 😀

Yay! But hey, there is something wierd in my coursework section. It looks like AMCAS gave me 0 credits for my entire sophomore year, and for part of my freshman year. There are 0s in the "semester hours" column next to all the classes, and in the cumulative section SO has 0 credits too, whereas all the other years, FR, JR, etc, have credit values.

The overall GPA is .1 higher than what I'd calculated myself. I wonder if I should contact them to ask about this, or just let things lie. I'd hate to get sent to the end of the line again. I'm certainly not short on credits overall.

Congrats to everyone else who got processed today!

that is absolutely delightful news. I am very glad for you. I wish that you are the first one to be transmitted, to make up for the delay in processing.

Mine just automatically went to active (my account was never active in the first place - I went from submit to hold immediately). No resubmission required!

so i was processed today, and when i checked my grades, amcas "corrected" a computer and information proficiency exam i took in 8/2002 that appeared like this on my transcript: comptr & info proficient...grade: 08/2002...hrs: 0.0...remarks: "C". (C=computer and info proficient)

here's the deal. amcas changed the grade of 8/2002 to "C," which is listed two columns to the right of the grades. i'm sure this most likely doesn't mean much to schools, especially since it's a 0 hour course, but the fact that they gave me a "C" for my grade when it was an exam i passed sort of irritates me. also, it's sort of a blemish on my otherwise A and B transcript.

anyone have any experience with something like this? i'll most likely not do anything, just cuz it'll be an added hassle to try and reverify, but i'd appreciate some input. thanks.

If the exam was graded as C/NC (credit/no credit) then AMCAS should have converted it to P/F. I think the people at AMCAS were confused and thought it was the letter grade 'C'. I wouldn't change it now, however, it will delay your application. After all your data has been transmitted to medical schools, you might be able to tell AMCAS to get that fixed for you. Give it a shot after your app has been transmitted. It'll force AMCAS to send another copy to the schools (and maybe another eye to read your app).

Have you applied in a previous year? I'm just wondering if you (or anyone else) has experience using this strategy, where you would only make corrections with AMCAS post-transmission. I have some issues I'd like to clear up with AMCAS too, but I would love to wait til my app has at least been sent out so that I don't get too behind.

By the way, about how close were people's AMCAS gpa's to the ones you calculated yourself? Mine's off by .1. It could be AMCAS uses some formula I don't understand, or maybe they just made a mistake.

Oh, and what's a normal AMCAS undergraduate total number of credit hours? I want to compare mine to the average to see if things have been calculated right.

Thanks! By the way Scubadoc, I was wondering about what was up with your application too. Congrats on being processed!

I was getting worried for awhile...this thread was making me nervous and I wondered why I even started it, all this unnecessary worrying.

Submitted: 6/22

On Hold : until 6/25 (Had a transcript exception pending for future coursework)
Had to email amcas to take me off hold and put me on Active.
Went straight from Active to Processed

Processed 7/1 4:26 pm

submitted: 6/3
Processed: 6/9

transcripts sent mid may.

so we're processed... what happens next?? Are we just waiting for secondaries to come flooding  our way!?

submitted: June 29
processed: July 1 (already had submitted my transcripts)
verified: ?
transmitted: ?

Hey all..

Have we heard/found out if the AMCAS welcome page updates to "transmitted" when they send our stuff..or are we just supposed to sit here and wait and chew all our fingernails off?

~L~

This may be a stupid question but what is the difference between processed and verified? Transmitted is when schools begin to receive your info, right?

THanks

When were your transcripts in, Carlene?

i had submitted my transcripts (3) in early June so that is why my application was active right away. The first went in June 4th and the last arrived june 17th.

Thanks! I had my transcripts in by 6/8 and submitted 6/29. I'm active, so when I saw your 7/2 processing date, I was hoping my application would get processed soon, too.

Good luck! 🙂

Well, I'm back in line to be verified again. AMCAS made a gaping error in calculating my gpa. I wonder if someone there just decided to go to lunch, forgot all about my application, and came back and pressed "Process." They ignored my entire sophomore year, AND they miscalculated every credit from all four of my undergraduate years. I went to a school on trimesters, and they treated my credits like semester hours.

On the phone they said it would take two weeks to change, but that my application will be transmitted in its current condition once schools start to download. Not like I really believe anything AMCAS says anymore, but if they're right, that means that making a request for changes won't slow our applications down.

What's WITH AMCAS anyway? Has anyone ever met an actual person who works there?

Actually.. even though their phone # is listed with a (202) area code.. i think they outsource internationally or something..those people don't sound like they know what's up and it is really strange...

hey guys

i sent in the amcas on 6/25, today is 7/2 and i'm still in active status...............................what do you think i should do? call them? email them? wait longer?

I would wait until Tuesday and see if anything changes..It took me a week just to see that they verifying my application.

i sent my application on 6/22, and became active on 6/23 when they received my last transcript, and i'm still waiting.

don't sweat it, you're not alone. they have a lot of these things to verify.

hahaha, ok not to sound like a total jackass, but i was verified right after i posted that stuff about how i've been waiting for awhile.

so for the record...

submitted 6/22
active 6/23 (received all transcripts)
verified 7/2

How does one know when or if their application is "active"?

edit: Nevermind... I found it.

fun8stuff said:

on the amcas welcome page, after submitting, there is a line indicating application status at the top of the screen. once all transcripts are in, the status will read "active" and will change as amcas gets to your application. when your application has been completed, that line will say "current application status: processed" and a checkmark will appear in the "certification and transmission" box on the left-hand side.

So I sent my application away just a few hours ago. Now there are all those big red X's over the categories that you cannot EVER change. That's unnecessary and a little scary. Has anyone recently completed their AMCAS app and been verified? How long is it taking these days?

I submitted my AMCAS application today! I had ordered my transcripts 5 weeks ago and they have 3 out of 4. The fourth one was sent back!! I just talked to the school and they'd had it returned due to a wrong address! I'm so mad! They're putting it in the mail today, but now it won't even get moving 'til Tuesday. To make things worst, she wouldn't send it expedited... she said the best she could do was regular mail.

Grrr!!! How much do you guys think this will affect my application?

I submitted on 6/2, began verification process on 6/7, and then was put on hold on 6/11 thanks to "unreadable transcripts" (Thank you NYU!). I had NYU resend them, and was put back on active status on 6/21. Still waiting to be verified so don't despair. Hopefully NYU remembered to put in a new printer cartridge this time!

As for the transmission process, this is how it works: Once your application is processed, it just sits there on the AMCAS system. AMCAS does not send anything out to anyone. The schools themselves log in and download any applications that have their specific school checked off. Some schools start picking up apps in early July, and some wait until August, at which point, some schools still sit on them until September. You need to remember that most schools are still running around trying to fill their 2004 classes right now, which is followed by vacation time with the kids (who are out for the summer). Then they get to the applications. In the mean time, we all start freaking out - believe me, after two weeks in active mode, this is easy to do. It sure beats the two month wait for the MCAT though!

Waiting waiting waiting...

It means your app will be on hold until they get your transcripts. So, it depends on when your school gets around to sending them out, and then you probably need to give AMCAS 7-10 days (it took that long for me) to put them in your file, at which point, you are officially submitted. Pain in the ass.

Oh well, Life and you haven't even started medical school 😱

Hey Pushkin you decided to send it after all? Yeah me too. I can't believe that after it took them SO long to verify my application that the GPA would be all messed up.

I am glad that my application will be transmitted and it won't be held up but I am worrying since they messed up my GPA (made it lower) that I will need to resend the application to any schools which download it! I'm just hoping they will fix it really quickly (ha ha ha, right) before the schools begin to download our apps.

SHEESH 🙄

anyone get trasmitted? when do they send the thing to schools?

CaptainJack02 said:

Look through the thread. Several of us think AMCAS doesn't "transmit" as much as schools download. So the apps may be ready, but won't be seen by schools until the pull them out of the ether(net).

Hey Scubadoc,

I know how you feel. I guess we just gotta hang in there. Hopefully, it's early enough right now that none of this will really affect us. Anyway, if AMCAS hasn't corrected my application by the time schools start to download it, I'm thinking of sending an email to each of the schools just to tell them to expect an updated version. In my case, AMCAS made my GPA too high, and I hardly want people thinking I'm trying to take advantage of their mistake. I also don't want schools to think their was something fishy going on in my coursework section. In your case, since they gave you too low a gpa, maybe you could also email schools and tell them it's being recalculated and you think it will be higher.

Of course this is assuming AMCAS was telling me the truth when they said that processed apps could be transmitted before additional changes are made... They sure don't sound very confident when they give out information over the phone though!

If your playing baseball, and you are at bat, and the umpire calls "ball" when the pitch is clearly a strike, do you argue with the umpire?

If you are a wide receiver in the NFL, and the QB fires a pass at you while you are covered well by a defender, and that defender blocks your reception without laying a finger on you, but the umpire calls "pass interference #52-defense, 1st and 10 for pushkin", do you argue the call?

Anyway, I just wanted to say that you are a very admirable person. Maybe I am being immoral, but for me, when someone (AMCAS) makes a mistake in my favor, I would probably keep my mouth shut about it, so long as my silence does not cause harm to someone else. My above analogies are how I justify silence as not being immoral. That is my 2 cents, and I do admire your honesty, you are probably a better man (or woman) than I, and I am sure you will make a great physician someday. As for me, I have been fighting an uphill battle being the first in family to go to college and working full time to do it. I take every break I can get. Now, if it were a large discepency, I would certainly report the mistake, but if it were just a few points in my favor, I'd let it slide. The ADCOM has the transcripts, and as long as you were completley honest in reporting the coursework and grades, then you have done nothing wrong, eh? 😀
