hey, just got this from my pre-professional office, in case anyone's eager to start working on their apps May 1.

Dear 2014 AMCAS/MD Applicants,

In order to complete the quality assurance process for the AMCAS 2014 application, the application opening will be delayed by one week. The 2014 AMCAS application is now scheduled to open on May 8 at 9:30 a.m. ET.

This postponement does not affect the remainder of the AMCAS timeline. We still plan to begin accepting application submissions on June 4, and to begin transmitting application data to medical schools on June 28.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns about the AMCAS 2014 timeline.

Best,

Jayme L. Bograd

Well, if the trend seen on this graph is any indication, I wouldn't be surprised if this one-week-delay actually does somehow contribute to increased delays in verification time.

Tip to everyone applying this cycle: apply early and you won't have to freak out about prolonged verification times.

Why would it have any effect on verification times? It's not as if you're submitting anything.

Ugh... screw it, I'll just wait another year and apply next cycle.

Maybe they are taking an extra week to figure out what went wrong last year/better organize for the new status quo of a front-loaded app season.

If more people submit at the very beginning, it might further worsen the delay. But you could be right, it might play no role. Regardless, applicants should make it a priority to apply as early as possible.

It will have no affect on any of this. They are delaying the AMCAS open date(previously May 1st, now May 8th). This does not affect the first day you can submit, which is still June 4th(June 5th last year). Nothing is changing about the first day you can submit and therefore nothing is changing with regards to verification. The biggest effect this will have is that you will have a week less to submit your transcripts before verification begins in June.

A more likely scenario is they still haven't decided how much they're going to raise application fees.

I'll delete those posts so I don't confuse anyone else.
