Do I need to select a specific area of study (e.g. PhD in Biochem, Ph.D. in Neuroscience) when asked on the AMCAS, or is this just for informational purposes?

I don't think that matters at all. I don't even remember seeing the responses to that question on our end, even when reading everyone's AMCAS application cover-to-cover.
